      El Camino Decoding Help

      I am looking for help in decoding the cowl tag on my late father's 79 Elky. He purchased this car early last year to show and became ill and passed away last fall. I am wanting to sell this car as the family has no use for it and I don't want to see it just set. It is a 60K mile car and runs like a dream. I need to know exactly what we have so I can advertise with some assurance. The car has SS badges and is a black car with red interior. Is there any way to identify if it is truly an "SS" car? Here is the cowl tag info:

      71 1AW80 Z 107804
      74D A52 15L 15U
      11C--- 640638

      Well ok,I'll give it a shot...

      First Number 71 should be 79 (for the model year) Be sure to check
      or clean off the tag real good..

      1AW80= Body Style 2-Dr Pickup
      Z = Assembly Plant (Fremont)
      107804 = Production Sequence

      74D = Color ( Dark Carmine) Cloth trim Interior
      A52 = Bench Seats
      15L = Lower Body Color (Silver Poly)
      15U = Upper Body color (Silver Poly)
      11-C Build Date 11=Nov C= 3rd Week)

      Other #640638 Not clear in book on that one,could be another
      sequence Number..If you want to leave the VIN # I could give
      you a little more info,engine,trans,assembly palnt ect.

      I dont think this was a SS you would be lloking for option or RPO
      Z03 option,and trim parts, its more of what options were installed
      the time of purchase,F41 Special front and rear suspension, G92
      special rear ratio axle.The basic SS options that could be spotted
      were ground effect panels or a 4-speed with 350 engine,bucket
      seats,high performance rear,and heavy duty front end ect.though
      the two tone paint,decals like below suggested,though this has
      buckets and other "possible" SS parts.

      I really dont think you have a SS here,but a clean decent elky that
      could be just what some one is looking for,sounds like somebody
      wanted to dress it up with some SS badges,and the elky sounds
      like a good clean project/driver.I'd do a serious detail job on it
      give it a good tune,and if your selling it i would say start it at
      $5500 to $8500 depending on the condition of course.

      If you need any more info..or if i can help in any way please
      let me know..

      Thanks alot Jim - we got it sold for $5500. Unfortunately, it was bought by a guy that lives on a gravel road and will be using it to haul stuff. The good part is that dad didn't have the car long so we didn't really consider it as "his car".
