454 ho w/ vortech or procharger?

Hey everyone, Just lloking at more stuff on the internet, I came across the gmpp 454HO crate motor, and saw that it has forged internals and low compression 8:5:1, Just weanted to know how much boost you could potentially push threw this motor with a procharger or vortech carb system. Anyone that has had any experience with this or done there research? Any info is always appreciated. Thanks
      Chris

Yea seriously, thats awsome, I would have never thought you could make even 740hp with basically just a supercharger on that motor, and thats only at like 6-8 lbs boost, I'm gonna go with a Procharger making 10-12 lbs, so I'm thinking somewhere in the neiborhood of 800hp, for around $8500-$9000. Not Bas HUh!!

I personally feel the ProCharger is a the better choice for your application. Big Blocks seem to love them. Err on the larger side, especially if you ever want to make more mods or crank the boost up. I wouldn't go smaller than a D1-SC, but if you can go for an F-1 or F-1R.

That is a great article indeed. Does anyone have a link to part 1 of the build-up that they mention [Aug. ’03 issue (“Import Killer: 780 hp From 7.4L”)]?

That sure is an appealing article. The short block is nicely priced.

Yes, I'll scan it as soon as I get it, I went to GM the other day and because I'm a tech student, I get the 454HO for $4400, So it looks like this is the way to go since GPstore can still help me out with the procharger, mmmmmmmm, this is gonna be fun!!

That's a great price Gordz! Are you planning on replacing the cam and/or heads? I was looking at the 454HO short block.

Yea it was a great price, I can get the Short block for $3300, as far as cam and heads, I think a supercharger calls for a bigger cam then whats in it, maybe something like 230 intake, 245 exhuast, as for heads, I'm not sure, trying to keep the cost down, and 800 hp is good enough for me, I'll change the intake manifold as well, carb will be from CSU, and I might go electric on the waterpump. oh and a ron davis radiator, how about you guys?

I already have an all forged 454 in my car, so I'm looking to model my changes after the article(s). I'm going to remove the exisitng 12.5:1 slugs and go with some 8.5:1-9.1:1 forged units. I have a solid cam now, but will go with a hydraulic roller, something in the range of (Duration 288/ 296, Lift .587/ .610, 112 LSA) or (Duration 296/ 304, Lift .610/ .632, 112 LSA). For heads I'll probably stick with my existing cast square ports. Intake-wise I'm currently investigating the Holley Commander 950 MPFI kit. The goal is to get it ProCharged, but that will come after all other changes have been installed/tested, and as $$$ allows.
