      Clutch engagement point adjustment

      Hello all,

We recently installed a Tkx + McLeod clutch set up in our Chevy II. I just started putting some break in miles on the new set up and everything works great, except for the clutch engages high in the clutch pedal swing. Is there anyway to adjust this so the clutch engages lower in the swing? Ideally I would want it to bite about halfway thru the pedal swing.

Any thoughts or tips are appreciated.

      Best,
      Cody

Yes, using a McLeod throwout bearing/master cylinder kit

Then you're stuck......as in no adjustments to be made. The throwout bearing is always going to return to the same spot, which is where the fingers of the pressure plate rest. The distance between there and the clutch starting to grab can not be changed.

New clutches tend to drive this way and will begin to grab earlier once they get broke in.

You can shorten the linkage from the pedal to the master cylinder. It won't change the distance between clutch grab and resting pedal but it will move clutch grab closer to the floor and that will feel more normal. Most people set the pedal up higher than they need to and have a lot of unnecessary travel after the clutch releases.

Thank you for that info, very helpful. I was already leaning towards what you pointed out in the second paragraph, so I think I’ll go that route.

I had the same issue with my McLeod system. I installed a ram 78300 pedal height adjustment kit. Cost a few bucks but problem solved 78300 - Pedal height adjuster kit universal - RAM Clutches

Interesting idea to add a spring loaded accumulator in line. I personally would rather just shorten the existing linkage and get the same pedal height to engagement point with less total travel.

Good point, but the McLeod unit gives infinite adjustment. I installed a pedal stop to keep the pedal throw short and keep from over centering the bearing and blowing out the seals. Shortening the linkage would appear to be a bit of a trial-and-error process whereas the McLeod unit is adjusted with an Allen wrench. I guess these are two different approaches to get to the same end space.
