      Patina'd Survivor 1967 Mustang Fastback

Growing up in the 1990's, I always wanted a 65-68 mustang fastback but the prices were either more then I could afford or they were ROUGH!! I've been looking hard for the last 2 years and just snagged a super solid 1967 Mustang Fastback from the San Antonio area. A buddy and I drove 1,311 miles in one day to pick it up and get home (at 5am) on Memorial Day. It needs cabin floor pans but the trunk floor, rockers, and frame rails don't need any work/repair. It's got it's original paint, so there are no surprises! It's got some patina on the hood and fenders, which will look really good once the rest of the paint is polished up. This will be a budget build...not paint/body work here. The plan is to save the existing original paint and upgrade the brakes/supension. I'm undecided on the drivetrain. I have a 50K mile 5.0/5 speed from a wrecked 1990 Mustang GT I parted out....If I use this, I would upgrade with camshaft and aluminum heads at minimum. I'm also contemplating a shock tower delete so I could go with a different drivetrain. Here's the starting point.

Very cool! I know I'm probably the only one but I'm not the biggest of Coyote fans. I just don't care for the sound and just the size of the thing is daunting. A nice traditional small block would be sweet but I am sort of prejudiced given my love for my traditional small block powered Maverick and King Cobra.

If you're budget minded, don't get started on Coyote swaps and shock tower deletes.
      - Monte Carlo bar and Export Brace
      - Shelby/Arning drop
      - Full rebuild of the front end with good quality shocks and preferably roller spring mounts
      - Delrin monoball strut rod bushings from Opentracker, where you can also get the rollerized spring mounts
      - Performance wheel alignment specs from the Dazecars web site
      - Borgeson power steering box
      - Build a 347 with aftermarket heads out of that 5.0

Cars are meant to be driven.

Thank you for the ideas list! The items on that list sound like they are right up my alley. I have not messed with Fords much so I don't even know where to start looking...I've been doing only mopars for the past 15 years!!

Thanks! I'm not good at welding, fabrication, or paint/body, but I do know how to find cool projects...too many projects! lol

As a nearly 20 yr owner of a ‘67 coupe, I’ll throw my $0.02 in that the above is a solid list!

I’ve just about finished building all the suspension items on that list, wish I would have done the Borgeson box instead of a Unisteer rack (the turning radius suffered) and would love to build a light, high revving 347 some day to replace my tired, but indestructible 289.

I’d add that a hydraulic clutch and a T5 are nice upgrades as well and readily available aftermarket.

The car looks great and super solid! It’s an excellent blank slate. Have fun!

      💯 a great way to go……….KISS.

I’ll add my tidbits, subframe connectors are a good option. And for the rear go with whoever for leafs, quality shock (Bilstien a Great less expensive option) and a panhard.

      Look at……

      -Open Tracker Racing
      -Street or Track
      -Mike Maier Inc

Those 3 started with a more simple performance Mustang products that work.

If your looking to go manual A T5 from a Fox body with a ModernDriveline.com crossmember and hydraulic throwout should be on your list too.

I have a 69 FB w/DSE suspension and if i could go back and do it differently I would have went the above route and saved a TON of $.

A flat black hood would look good as well

Get it running, then get it right. I made the mistake of trying to do a full resto on a previous car and never got it running. If i were to do it over, i would have got it running and then piece by piece, upgraded the car. So get the basics together, throw a motor in it, trans, cooling, etc. Get it on the road, no it won't be race ready but it will be driving. You will have fun with it. Then pick something and upgrade it. Do the suspension first, then the brakes, post on restomod sites to see if anyone has upgraded stuff laying around they want to sell. I currently have a gen1 triangulated 4 link system from ridetech, It's all there and I would sell it cheap. You can do this on a budget. ebay, swap meets, and making friends on these sites are awesome. There is gold out there in peoples garages just waiting to be snatched up. Carbs, distributors, intakes, heads, brakes, etc. It's all out there.

I have had several projects get out of control so I have promised myself that this one won't! It helps greatly that the trunk and wheel tubs don't need any work!

Don't want to detract from your thread, but this statement is well said! I too made that mistake with my Camaro and that's why it was 7 years before I was able to drive and enjoy the car. Current car was running around with literally the bare minimum in about 15 months. Just installed some rear shocks this past weekend as a matter of fact!

I love this project and can't wait to see it progress. If you did the shock tower delete, my vote would be a Godzilla motor!

I sent you a PM regarding the triangulated 4 link. But my responses are not showing in "sent items". So i don't know if they went through. If they didn't let me know I will post the responses here. Don't know whats up with messaging.
