LS3 sheet metal intake noise help needed
I have a GM480 hp crate motor with a Fitech sheet metal intake. The noise from the thin sheet metal intake drives me nuts. Has anyone successfully dampened it with Dynamat underneath the belly of the intake or by maybe welding some support ribs across the top?

It’s a known problem with the cheap sheet metal intakes. I think it might be a little too hot for Dynamat.

When is the noise noticeable? Idle, cruise, wot?
What about spray on sound deadener or getting a truck place to spray on bed liner, it would thicken the support structure, provide a small amount of insulation, and hopefully dampen the sound.

I tried one of these for awhile, I don't recall any weird noises. Can some one explain it?

Gen 3 Hemi's use a pretty thick foam block in the dry valley under the intake. Works well for dampening valve train noise. Most OE's use the same type of foam block under the plenum if it overhangs the valve cover on overhead cam engines. It will be between the valve cover and plenum to dampen noise. You could make a pick and pull trip and grab an OE insulator, you know it has been engineered to be the right density and heat resistant.

Muffler wrap would be heat resistant enough and is designed to dampen muffler resonance.

So far I am leaning towards coating the top with Lizzard Skin. It would have a nice texture and muffle the sound. Plan B is to suck it up and buy a new intake for Texas Speed or Holley.
