3 point harnesses in a vert?

I thought I saw a tread, but was unable to find it.

I would like to add shoulder belt to my 67 vert but am unsure how this could be done.

I would prefer not using seats like billygoat.

If anyone has pics, links of info, please share

There was a 3-point belt system for the 1st Gen verts, but IMO it dosen't look like it would do that great a job.

99+ Chevy pickups have them built in. 03's+ are by far the nicest ones.

WEll, the problem I see with most of the seats with the built in belts, is they just look to big, too wide.

Billygoat is an awsome car, and looks amazing, but those seats just look out of place to me. They look like somethingout of a 77 cadillac.

What if you had a roll bar? Im sure there would be an easy way to attach to that.

Yeah, a roll bar would make things easy.

This car will be a street driven car, will not see the track.

I think rol bars look funny in a vert, unless done right. I am trying to come up with a clean roll bar that doesn't make the rear seat useless though.

You can't have a cage/bar that will function appropriately as rollover protection and harness mount AND still use the rear seat. Dig the "Breaks my Heart" thread for reasons supporting this statement.

Well, again, I am not building a race car. I have read though that thread and understand.

I know a full cage and 5 point harnesses will provide the ultimete protection, but I am just not willing to go that extreme.

I have a race car with a full cage for that.

But I figured 3 point harnesses would be a fairly easy addition and would help greatly.

After all, the factories are still spitting out verts with out roll over protection.

Well, like I said there is/was an OE system that was an option in the 1st Gen vert. If you look behind the side panel in the back seat you will see the mount hole for it.

IMO it isn't that great of an option because of the angle the belt comes over the seat.

Like I said, from a safety standpoint you are better off going with something that integrates the belt into the seat backrest. It places the belt at a more appropriate angle. No way the old OE system would get past DOT tests these days, those seats in the Bimmer do.

Run down to your local Bimmer dealer and take a look at the vert. The seat is much leaner than the Sebring seat.

From a dealer probably a ton. From a wrecking yard and then recovered in the fabric of your choice....a lot less.

The only issue I have with my seats are that they sit high. Almost too high for me to sit in the car with top up. In a first gen, they would be even worse, so be careful when choosing a replacement. It would be best if you could actually test fit before you buy.

I have an '04 Silverado with the integrated seat belts. They are, without a doubt, the most comfortable seat belts I have ever used. This type of seatbelt system will deffinetly wind up in my Nova, and if I can find a seat small enough, my Vega too.
Do a search on E-bay for "front seats" to get an idea of what is out there. More and more cars and trucks are using these belts.

I have been working on this same problem in my head now for a year or so. My idea, though untried, is to attatch the upper mount to the rear inner 1/4 but with a twist. I want to mount it more towards the inside of the car to reduce the silly angle of the belt. This means making a custom inner panel that is "thicker" to hide it and make it look more "factory." This will be complimented by a "thicker" door panel, making it easier to hide speakers. I hope this makes sense, I haven't finished my coffee yet!

There was a thread that floated around for a bit with a black '67 vert with a black & brown interior. It had a rather clever harness bar behind the seat. Made the back seat totally useless though.

I'm installing Wise Guys three point seats in my wife's '55 Belair hardtop. They have a much more traditional look than the late model seats.
