      72 El Camino

Needed an answer: I'm trying to ID the rear end in my 72 El Camino. Its a conventional .308 10 bolt. There are bolt pattern indentations on the left and right side of the cover as you look at it front the rear. I suggested it was a multi use axle used for different GM A bodied cars. I'm just trying to find out what the ring gear size is so I can get some parts coming. Great Blog BTW.

Can you read the axle id code ? it should be on the rear of the right (pass) axle tube . That would be a good start . id also consider taking off the cover and seeing if theres any info stamped into the ring gear , of course this will allow you to confirm 10 bolt and rough gear ratio. As for ID it as a Chevy vs B.O.P. take a picture of the rear cover and uploading it would also be a big help
