I wish I could share some of my renderings but that would get me in a little trouble right now.

      I will share this though.

      http://dpcars.aprsworld.com

On the left side, click the black carbon LM race car looking thing.

Not too bad for a little home project, just building and designing a complete race car from the ground up. TONS of 3d renderings, it's basically engineer porn

haha nice, why cant you show some of the renderings? I see your using solid works on this stuff. Where did you learn solid works? and what do you do for work that involves it now?

by the way... killer car... Id love to do something like this when i find the time to actually use on it. just finishing school and starting my career isnt the best time probably... hopefully in the future ill have some more free time.

But thats really cool, I like the backbone type frame, and the engine offset to the one side. AWD, Chain drive... very cool.

first off is that M5 yours? Did you get to drive the Atom or was that someone else? And if you or your company gets to do all this cool stuff. Where do I sign up?

Posting the renderings could compromise our position in the market with regards to releasing a new product ;) IE, it could cost us A LOT of $$$, and my ass if anyone ever found out.

I first learned a-cad/mech desktop many years ago so I had a good understanding of the principles of 3d modeling. Basically got myself a copy of SW and started playing with it. Learning curve isn't bad, and it's a much more powerful system.

My main job is commercial engineering, but I also do contract work for some local aftermarket automotive companies. It sounds fun but 85% of what I work on is rather dull, then again everyonce in a while I do get a cool project to work on.

Yeah that car is going to be off the hook, especially when he gets the V8 in there and it's making 600hp all motor. In an awd car that weighs nothing, it will flat haul the mail.

LOL, thats not my website, just someone I've worked with and talk to quite a bit. He is just a particularly bright mechanical engineer who really like cars.

What you don't see is the $80k he has sunk into that car thus far.

Its a Mitsubishi 3.0L 6G72 V6 TWin Turbo block, I also modeled a 3.5L 6G74 which is VERY similar, So close that I now have the only 3.5L Stealth TT in the world. Actually there are 3 3.5L Twin Turbos in the world but I have the only Stealth;)

A Few of my favorites. I love Solidworks. I started on Pro-E and AutoCad, but I would never go back.

      ProE vs. Solidworks

We used ProE at Purdue, so I haven't had much if any exposure to Solidworks. What are your pros and cons. Ease of use, features. Just curious. I'm only using ProE to tinker and draw parts for myself now, but I miss doing some more detailed work.

By the way your renderings looks great.

Thanks for the comments. I just think Solidworks is more user friendly and can inport and export just about any file from any program. I do hear that the latest Pro/E is more like Solidworks in being user friendly. As an example I had used Pro/E for about 3 years and within a month of doing some built in and online tutorials in Solidworks I could do about twice as much.

Maybe I'll have to see if I can come up with Solidworks. I always like to learn new things. Unfortunately I'm kind of a Jack of all trades, master of none, but I get by.

I've got ProE Wildfire v1.0 from when I was school. PTC gave our Mini-Baja team licenses of it!

Solidworks is defiantely very user friendly, and ProE wildfire has made VAST improvements over the old pull down menus. Ive done only a little in Pro E and most of my backround was when it was still pull down menus and extreemly NOT user friendly. Solidworks has been real nice to work with. Its easy to use much like Unigraphics which is where I do just about all my work.

UG kicks butt. But that is all I have used for 14 years, and since I work for the company I pretty much have to say it. But honestly when you have used it for 14 years & 12 versions you tend to know it pretty well.
