      Ridetech and Summit shipping issues

Just need to vent a bit. Been here for a few years and have gotten great advice. Just want to tell everyone my experience ordering the ridetech rear 4 link from Summit. So the first box came with literally parts falling out of it. UPS dude had to pick up 2 pieces that fell out of a hole in the box. So I open the box and most parts we’re just loose in the box. So all of the bars had heavy stretches and a few chips of paint. Obviously I wasn’t too happy called Summit and they agreed to ship me out a second box. Got the new box today and surprise surprise same problem parts are scratched with chips in the paint. Now everything is still functional but we all know when we spend this type of money we wanna see nice shiny new parts. Summit offered to takeoff $200 which at this point I’m going to take. But this whole situation really took the wind out of my sails. I’ve been building my 68 for the last six years making upgrades whike keeping the car on the road. wanted to go 4 link and finally pulled the trigger and this happened. Anyone else has this type issue with ridetech parts. Or is this just a raw case.

That doesn’t sound like the packaging anything ridetech I have bought had. It was always well packaged.

Of course it goes without saying you are lucky the parts were in stock. Almost everything is unobtanium these days.

Yeah I really don’t think it has to do with ridetech or Summit. I just think UPS tossed the box around to much.

As mentioned, loose stuff bouncing around in the box doesn't sound like ridetech packaging. When I bought my full coilover suspension from them it was so well packaged it was really over protected. Every piece had protective sheet around it, everything was in it's own box, etc. I almost considered calling them to see if they wanted it all sent back to be reused it was so overdone.

Yeah, ridetech stuff I've received was VERY well packed. Sounds like UPS played football with it - that's a heavy box too. I've had 1 package delivered by UPS this year that was beat to crap, so much so it was obvious they repacked it and taped it up before delivery. Fortunately nothing was damaged. UPS had it waiting for delivery at the local Depot for over a week.

We've always packaged things very well but have had to try even harder over the last couple of years. I'm not sure what has happened with all of the shipping companies but we've experienced way more "lost" and severely damaged packages than we ever have. I actually just received a video from a customer of a driver chucking a box of control arms over a fence instead of walking it up to the door. It's just frustrating in these situations. Some of the parts are heavy but we have done the best with packaging that we can (even had boxes built for specific kits so the parts couldn't move around) but they can still manage to find a way damage them every now and then. I can't imagine how often Summit has to go through this exact thing with the thousands of parts they ship out but they're always very good to work with, when this happens. If you need any other help, feel free to give me a call at the shop.

      Thanks,
      Josh

It's a UPS thing. Where I am we have one great UPS driver, and when he delivers stuff it comes in decent shape. Then there are the other guys, who show up with damaged boxes sometimes, other times they literally stick the parts somewhere under the trees (in a heavily wooded area), take a closeup picture of the box under the tree (as if you can identify one specific oak tree by the base in a field of thousands) and claim it's delivered. It's bad enough that pretty much everyone in my area has the direct phone number to the local UPS depot. Fedex, never an issue. Can't say on USPS, because I live so far out in the sticks they're afraid to come out here.

You should be able to throw the boxes around with nothing happening to the parts.

The problem is these boxes are too heavy.
I cant really blame a person who weighs
150 lbs trying to load and deliver a 150 lbs package. Should be packaged in multiple boxes.

Are their things that we could do better? Absolutely, there's always places to improve. However, packaging is one that we've always focused very hard on. We've done everything in our power to make sure our parts make it to the customer in tip-top shape. At the end of the day, should you be able to throw boxes around and the parts still be alright? That's the goal. When I worked in shipping (before I was a pencil pusher ), you wouldn't catch me throwing boxes because the parts inside didn't belong to me. I've always believed that you should treat everyone and their property the way that you want to be treated.

If we were shipping a 150lb box, I would agree with you. The kit the original post is referring to is a 65lb, heavy duty box, that is built specifically for the cradle/bars with added support around everything in it. You'd be hard-pressed to build a better box...

Just curious if these things showed up in the original packaging from ridetech. I had a similar issue with a set of Strong arms that I bought from Summit.

First set had a damaged ball joint boot. Probably a fluke thing as they were very well packaged with ridetech logos on the box. Summit sent a replacement set, and these showed up in a totally different box with no Ridetech logos. The box was open and the parts all scratched and beat up. To me, it looked like someone had bought these and returned them in a different box. So I’m blaming Summit for that one. Third set showed up perfect in the same Ridetech logo box as my first set.

But I agree with Josh; Ridetech does seem to do a very good overall job with their packaging. ***** can still happen, unfortunately.

Anything that leaves our shop has Ridetech logos on the box, whether it's going direct to a customer or to a distributor. It sounds like they re-boxed a set on that replacement set. Thanks Andy! We do try :D.

Dont you have to be able to lift a certain amount of weight when applying to be a delivery person?
You know what you were signing up for so dont take it out on the package

My usps driver is so lazy he stuffs whatever he can in my mailbox instead of walking it up to the door. Ive had multiple packages stolen because of that

It is your job to lift boxes and deliver them

Just like its apart of my job getting hit with blood while working on hearts in the operating room. Except i cant **** up and keep doing what im doing

I received my from control arms today from ridetech. Also my coilovers but no springs came in the box with the shocks. I never got a email or anything about springs not coming. Its the weekend now so i cant call. This is for a 69 camaro. Are the springs not in stock or something?

I'd have to check. Send me an email with your name and order information, it's [email protected]. You will also see any backorder information from us on the packing slip/invoice.

      Thanks,

I recently received a large package from Fedex that contained the front and rear glass for my 67 Camaro. It was not heavy. The box was opened at the top which was originally stapled shut. The driver said he opened it up with no explanation why. I made him wait till I unwrapped everything which he did not like. Fortunately, they were in great shape. I then let him go on his way.
