LS7/LS9 oil tanks for a 69 Camaro - tips and advice needed

It's time for me to buy a tank for my project and also decide where to put it. I've searched and read several build threads here trying to soak up as much info as I can. I love the idea of keeping the oil tank in the passenger-side tulip panel but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger for fear of not being able to pull it off. (well, technically a local Dayton Ohio shop is working on this now) I've read I should have at least 10 qts capacity.

I'd love to hear others' experiences with this, opinions and things to plan for that maybe aren't obvious.
      My biggest 3 concerns are:
      1. How best to fill and check oil level for the *tulip panel* location
      2. I see a lot of variety of single and many dual breather setups. I have no idea why you need 2, nor why their sizes seem to vary so much.
      3. For the old battery location, I'm not sure if 10qts fits there. Also seeing caps and fittings in every damn direction. :-/

Some pics for interest and reference...funny, they're bigger here than on my own laptop screen. lol

      You cant have enough oil.

Are you running the stock LS7/LS9 oil pump? What frame you doing?

Behind the pass side headlight will make lines and checking/filling the easiest.

I have a Katech 'blue' oil pump and an AVIAID insert for the stock oil pan. Sadly, still the stock sub-frame but with DSE sub-frame connectors.

Have you mocked the LS7 pan up in the frame?

I ran the LS7 pan in the stock sub frame and had to mod the oil pan and make my own oil line adaptor.

Great question. I did mock the stock LS7 pan into position using the plastic P-Ayre LS block and some Dingo adjustable motor mounts. So far, fits good. <fingers crossed>

I might have taller engine stands on the frame. I have 3 or 4 sets here of varying heights.

I have a very nice quality dry sump tank with a filter under the cap. Bought it from some guys who road race porsche and had an extra. I wound up staying wet sump on my LS7. If interested PM m and I'll get you pics and drawings and such

These pictures aren't the best but it's a peterson tank that was made for guys that did road racing. Has oil filter in top and a dipstick. I've got drawings somewhere but I'm looking. Very nice tank.

Nice looking tank, how many quarts is it?

FWIW - I think I'm heading down the road of replicating the STEFs tank in in the 'tulip panel' area as shown in one of those pictures above.
