      Find a car by a 13-digit VIN

While going through my deceased father's paperwork, I found a suprising discovery - the bill of sale for my first car, with the VIN written on it. It was surprising that he still had it, considering it was bought in 1985 or 1986. I've often wondered what happened to it, and wouldn't mind getting my hands on it. Does anyone have a way to search for a 13-digit VIN? So far my Duck-Fu has let me down.

From what I understand you cant search that stuff due to Department of Homeland Security, not letting that kind of personal info being let out to the general public anymore, but I could be wrong......

1972 Buick Skylark, so I was kinda hoping this would be a good forum. Nothing special about it other than it was my first car. Last time I saw it it was primer gray with a black interior. My brother was kind enough to hole cut into the floorpan for a 4-speed manual. Originally a 350/3 speed car.
