      1970 C10 Build

Thought I would try and get a thread going on my C10. It's not anything too fancy, just something to cruise around, have some fun,and occasionally scare the neighbors with....

I have been collecting parts for a while, keeping them stashed around the shop, finally last November I made some time to at least start some of the assembly.

I'm trying to keep the budget reasonable, so I ended up cleaning the frame the old fashioned way, no real cost, just takes a bit of time and makes a huge mess!

I decided to swap the trailing arm cross memeber for an aftermarket fabricated one, then started on the TCI front suspension.

I am using the rear end out of my old pro street C10, so I had to clean all the old 4 link brackets off so I could install some original style trailing arm saddles to be able to install the TCI rear suspension.

I coated the frame with rustoleum hammertone paint, and rustoleum gloss black on the suspension. I have done this on a couple of my other builds, it works well and is very cost effective.

Mounted all the rear suspension, added 18x8 ,and 18x11.5 Detroit steel wheels and original '67 C10 hubcaps. Have a 427 BBC and turbo 400 in it.Name: FB_IMG_1621908538532.jpeg

I had gotten a deal on this cab, it came with all the patch panels including the full floor panel. Doing bodywork for a living, I had no issue with putting in the work to get it the way I want . You will notice when it comes to the body panels on this truck, they are mostly used original panels from multiple trucks that have been gathered up over time.

So it started with the cowel panel, then flipped it on it's back panel and went full flintstone on the floor. Got all the old floor out,and the new floor in, and set back up right on the cart.Name: FB_IMG_1621908653491.jpeg

Wanting to clean up the firewall, I ended up getting a kit from Vanetta Fabrication. Spent a bit of time welding and grinding, but am happy with the results. Sprayed a little rattle can etch on it until I get to the final body work phase.Name: FB_IMG_1621908908928.jpeg

Finally to a point I could start mocking up body parts, I started with the cab and went from there. Grabbing more parts from the stash hoping to end up with something resembling a truck....added the doors, core support, fenders, grille headlight trim and grille trim.Name: FB_IMG_1621908978053.jpeg

My initial plan was to cut down a long bed that I had into a short bed, but I ended up coming across a pair of short bed besides and a short bed floor.

Having those parts mocked in place, I took the missing parts from the long bed, the front bed panel, wheel tubs, tail gate hardware, and used the tailgate from my old short bed, and a used rear roll pan I had.

I am going to have to widen the tubs about an 1.5", due to the fact my rear axle is actually narrowed. The wheels and tires clear the frame fine, but just got the tubs a little bit. The yellow tapemis covering up the gap in the tubs, as they are only temporally screwed together with metal straps right now.Name: FB_IMG_1621909039034.jpeg

Well 2 months of hard work and it almost looks like a truck....still have a long way to go.... have actually got a factory hood to replace the aftermarket one on it in the pictures. I was not happy with the fit of the aftermarket hood, set the factory hood on it and it ended up fitting way better.Name: FB_IMG_1621909073632.jpeg

      Questions for you

I have so many questions for you! What size rear tire are you running? Do you know the width of mounting flag to mount flange? I will PM you my cell as I would like to talk to you about your rear suspension setup if possible.

This thing is sick, the wheel choice really ties everything together. Let's you know it isn't an average old truck and warrants a closer look

Very nice. I like it. I am interested in the wheels as well. I looked at Detroit Steels website, and they dont list an 18 x 11.5. They only list a 9" wide in the 18" diameter. I am considering something very similar on the F100, but I would use the factory ford hubcaps, and probably get them airbrushed to look like the old rusty ones I have now.

Looking great! Someone's going to have to really know these trucks to see the tub job you did in the back, looks almost factory.
