      Pilot bearing for T56...

I have a T56 that I'm currently mating with an LS7 (LS427). I was told the pilot bearing that came with the LS7 was for the TR6060 and wasn't going to work with the T56 and that I needed to order a different pilot bearing (part #14061685). I did that. I'm looking at the new bearing vs the old one and not seeing how it replaces it. Seem like the diameters are drastically different. Pics for reference. What's going on here? What am I not seeing or doing properly?

The large bearing only works with a TR-6060.
The smaller one you have fits deeper in the crank & works with the T-56.

Remove the existing one & you will see a deeper hole in the crank.

I did the same thing when I put a T-56 behind my LS3.

I have it off with a puller. I see where it goes. Do I just seat the bearing as far back as possible or do I keep it flushed with the lip of the bore? Also, which way does it go in?

Tap it in until it is flush.

I would then install the ball housing without the flywheel and install the transmission, so you can visually see the engagement of the input shaft into the pilot.

      The smooth side faces outwards.
What you are showing in the picture faces the engine.

      Seat it flush.

Just for those who care. I machined a. .625 spacer for between my bell housing and T56 magnum. I wanted to run an LS9 clutch ( a. I already have it and b. It's an on the shelf at gm, and c. It's tough and economically priced if you shop). That being said with it in the quick time bell I lacked room of .500 for getting the input shaft where I wanted to run the Big pilot bearing and lacked .125 for the tilton throwout bearing. So .625 made it happen.
