      L99 friction ring/ seal Question

Pulled the balancer on an L99 crate engine today. This ring/ seal looking thing came out with it. It fits perfect on the end of the balancer snout.
What is it and what does it do?
I'm installing a Holley mid mount setup which uses a different balancer... Would you use this thing or leave it off?
      Thoughts???

The L99 had VVT and AFM. That looks like a spacer to accommodate the deeper front cover. Post a picture of the front cover.

Yes, it had the VVT and AFM. It had the cover with the phasers thing. I did the VVT/AFM delete new LS3 front cover, valley pan, 3 bolt cam etc.

Then you can just install the balancer that came with the mid mount.

      That makes sense.
Still kinda curious on its purpose though.
Here's a link to what I'm talking about.
My first time seeing this on an LS engine...

Looks like a provision there for a keyed crank also.

      It's a multi purpose spacer.

      I'll measure it's thickness tomorrow.
I just think with the diamond impregnated material the design team probably was factoring more than spacing alone.
      Interesting, none the less.
