Small update over the last few days, in between rain and cold windy days.
Started blasting the passenger side door jam and quarter panel, this will take some time to finish but I have the time as opposed to paying $1000+ to have the car blasted.Name: 23321D5C-55BA-47A9-A72E-CE125A9CB1A4.jpg

      Amazing work, as always, David!

It looks like you are about to the point where I need to come over so we can set the seat up for me! You know I say that in jest since my money is no good. :-)

Its really nice weather today so I'm about to take the mocked up parts off so I can get it outside to blast some more

The wiper motor and the steering column is from a 4th gen Camaro. And yes the park mechanism is still on the wiper motor from the 4th gen.

Thanks, its a much nicer looking wiper motor vs the originals , also gives you intermittent. Anymore details to share on doing the swap ?

      yes sir!
the steering column was pretty simple, I took the steering wheel and air bag with the wiring off of the column. Then I test fitted the steering wheel I plan to run , all looked good so I moved to the mounting on the column. The two bolt on the Camaro column was much wider than the Elcamino so I took a couple measurements to verify that the mount off of the Elcamino column would fit if I cut part of the Camaro mount off.
it looked like a good fit so I cut the mount down enough to tack weld the Elcamino mounting plate to the Camaro column. Once that was done I test fitted it to the body.
So now I liked it so far and got to a point where I could get to working on the firewall again. Tried to keep it simple and cut a little more of the original firewall away. I started fitting a piece of 20ga sheet metal to cover most of the firewall.
the wiper motor had already been mocked up a couple different ways until I found a way that I liked and it would function correctly (checking it without power by hand) to make sure it would turn without hitting anything and be timed correctly.
the next test will come after I get the wiring connectors and power it up!
      That will be a while!
      Hope this helps!

Update , it’s been cold but I’m loving the shop as it stays at a good working temperature of 66 degrees
So back to the Elcamino. I got some more blasting done and put the frame back under the body,(squared and bolted in for the last time) it goes on the rotisserie next.Name: F6E130A6-6146-4CF5-BB48-54E0B5BD62D3.jpg

      David,

You got a very interesting arrangement with the crossmember on the front frame horns. Presumably it doesn't interfere with anything?

      Hi Andrew
No sir it does not interfere with anything.
I have had it all mocked of a couple times now, It is a little more trouble to get the 2nd gen trans am sway bar off but worth the effort I think. As I'm sure you know the front frames tend to sag on these a body's . This really seams to have help with that as i have done a visual test with a jack in the normal location with motor an trans. installed. (Before and after the added bar) I could not see any movement after the install that i had seen before it.
This should also help with any frame rail flex at the steering box and idler arm location.
      Thanks for looking!
