From here, I don't know how that lives long term as there is nowhere for anything to move with expansion. Happy to be wrong about that though as the bracket is elegant in its simplicity.

I am open to suggestions....I wish I had some detailed pictures of how Rad Rides mounted the turbo on that red wagon.

      https://radrides.com/builds/1961-brookwood-chevy-wagon/

I don't know for sure, but it really looks like they used the Holley turbo manifolds on that build.

As often happens, new products become available in the middle of a build and a decision has to be made whether to change direction. Summit Racing released a new stainless turbo manifold last week, and I felt that it was worth using it.

Just received the Summit manifold this morning. Some observations:

      1. It is divided between the passenger and the driver's side banks, however, as noted before, this does not follow the LS firing order. I don't know what this means in practical terms.
      2. The casting, machine work, and welding are excellent.
      3. The welded WG flanges fit my TurboSmart 45mm wastegate perfectly.
      4. A 4 inch downpipes looks to be a very tight fit against the waste gate. The TurboSmart waste gates are water cooled and I think this would be a smart feature to use in this installation.
      5. It would be nice if the inlet side v-band and mating flange was included with the manifold.

I will mock this up on the engine and post more pictures.

Looks great. For some reason I thought you all ready bought the Holley turbo manifold some. Are you actually have enough room? That mock up looks like it mounts the turbo real high.

I do have the Holley manifold already, but this might be a better option, even with its own issues.

      More pictures...

      Observations:

      1. The inlet flange is definitely not in the same location as the Holley manifold. If you look carefully and imagine where the firewall might be, the Summit manifold has a lot less space for a downpipe. This can probably be addressed by cutting off the inlet flange and positioning it in a similar location to the Holley manifold.

      2. Tall valve covers are a no-go. In fact, even stock valve covers might cause the #2 coil to be cooked.

      3. Accel ceramic 45 degree plug wires are a tight fit, and #6 cylinder doesn't fit at all.

These are just observations and by no means a judgement. Your mileage may vary...

Andrew doesn't Holley sell a bracket to move the coil over an inch orso? That looks like a nice setup.

I have the tall valve covers now. I think the short ones would have a lot better clearance. Or the turbo mount can be altered to angle the turbo away from the engine some more.

The Summit manifold looks nice but not sure fully divided is worth the extra plumbing. Looks like you need a gate on the front too?? Looks like packaging will be even more difficult because of that. Also, have you confirmed fitment with your inner fenders/control arms in the car? Remember making a 1/4" of space is difficult with cast parts.

In this situation, the Holly manifold looks like the better option. While I don't love having to snake through the front, the v-band turbine makes this much better for placement and clean look. You could use a drain spacer flange for your support mount (not much else to hang a Borg from).

For sure don't compromise the down pipe for hot side. You want that flow for power and response.

      Alex,

I really appreciate your thoughts. The engine definitely needs to get in the car ASAP so all of this can get sorted out.

Love the progress and I see you changed directions on the headers/exhaust manifold. Somewhere I think I have or had one of those LS mock up blocks. I can send it to you so you can see how things fit in your car. I also have an empty 700r case if needed.

Being at LS Fest last weekend got me motivated again to work on the GTO. The fact that it is a lot cooler is helping as well. I needed to get everything ready to drop the engine and trans in the car, because until that happens, anything to do with mocking up the hot side of the turbo is just guessing.

As some of you might recall, I only replaced the passenger side of the front suspension, which also meant that I did not replace the driver's side engine frame stand.

Yesterday I decided to tackle that project. First order of business was to assemble this awesome rolling chair from Vyper. They are super well made, right here in the US. Highly recommended.

Here is what was going on after I took the wheel off.

I removed all of the front suspension...

Then I was able to install the Holley LS swap frame stands.

Then back together it went with the new ridetech suspension and coilovers.

I didn't have time to get the rotor back on, but at least everything is cleaned up and the car rolls again.
