      1985 Monte Carlo SS

I am starting with a clean low mileage SS.

      Attachment 181962

After reading LanceSS’ build thread and talking to him I think I have a pretty good idea of how I want to start. This is going to be a street car with good manners and be a capable auto cross car, I want to do the Hot Rod Power Tour and we have a local Auto Cross racing series that I want to join.

I want to do all of the work I can myself. Dune to being on a small budgets at a time and not getting discouraged with the build I want to do what I can over the winters and have it back driving in the spring. I have built other cars and motorcycles in the past and they started with great intentions but towards the end I would get in a hurry and Skip doing some of the stuff I wanted to do so when I was done I wasn’t happy with the way it turned out and after a short time I would sell it.

I am going to try and make this exactly what I also want to do it right the first time.

If anyone sees something that I should do different please let me know!

      Let the fun begin

Heading to the sand blaster then boxing and stiffening. Then powder coating.
I am planning on using UMI suspension components, 9 inch rearend and the sway bar suggestions from Lance. Thank y’all in advance for your help and suggestions!!

Looks like you have a great body to start out with.

I like your choice of cars! Maybe we can compare when done.

Looks clean! I've been building my Monte SS for years and have used Lance's postings as guidance for a lot of it (thanks Lance!). I'm taking mine to an HPDE this weekend at VIR which probably isn't too far from you. Hope you keep us updated on your progress

Size: 182.2 KB. When I started you could lift a rear corner of the frame afoot and a half before the front would move. Now it takes about 2 inches.

      Frame upgrade

I am amazed how much of a difference it made. I don’t know if it will change the ever day ride quality but it should handle the curves like crazy. Maybe someone will chime in on ride quality.

. Thank you to Speedtech Performance for the help with the AFX spindles. Waiting on Wilwood Brakes front and rear. I did all of the measurements and went with the 12.8 super lite 6 piston on the front and matching 4 piston on the rear. I wanted to go a little bigger on the front but due to not wanting to buy new wheels right now I was under the constraints of 17 inch. I may still have to run a 1/8 inch spacer to clear the spokes. Next 3/16 brake lines and figure the master cylinder mount out It is going to be a manual setup so I might need a bracket I will update what I find out. Brakes are back ordered of course but at least the master cylinder and proportioning valve is shipped. I want to thank everyone on the forum for the help getting what I need and answering questions I have had! It should be fun.
