      96 Z 28 Brake Upgrade

      Hey Guys,
I purchased 1996 z28, M6 with a crae LT4. Great car but the brakes are not the best thing in the world haha. Anyone know if the c5 upgrade can be done without swapping to ls spindles? or other factory type of upgrades?

      Vince

You can get brackets to put C5 calipers on LT1 spindles but you have to cut and grind off the old caliper mounting points on the spindle so there's no going back. I did it. Would have been way easier to just swap some LS1 spindles on.

Got it. I will keep an eye out for the 98 spindles & try and make it to the bone yard. How do you like the upgrade?

We did it a long time ago so my "before" memory isn't perfect but "after" the pedal is solid and brake performance is great. To be honest, though, it was mostly done for aesthetics, because the car needed pads and rotors anyway, and the c5 calipers were already sitting on a shelf in the garage. Its 100% street driven so the requirements are pretty low. I think we even just used whatever pads came on the "loaded" reman calipers.

Its probably way more involved from a wheel-fitment perspective but I think GM front Brembos (CTS-V, ATS, Camaro, Regal GS, etc.) bolt straight on to LS1 spindles.

I should be getting a set of ls spindles this week and will keep looking out for deals on the rest of the parts. I’m just looking for a well handling car to have out on weekends

I completed the swap this weekend along with kore 3 braided hoses(great quality). Much better than the stock single piston brakes, and the swap was straight forward. Only issue is a defective caliper from Amazon, I get the replacement this week so Il swap and re bled the brakes. I did notice that if I slam on the brakes the trac light turns on I’m not sure if that is normal?Name: 810B6288-C31F-4736-9E94-4C5CFC38EE85.jpg
