eBay Sloppy Stage 2 cams legit?

Anyone running a Sloppy Stage 2 cam from eBay? I know there are several different brand names of this cam spec. Inquiring for my boy doing a budget LS swap on his ‘72 Nova.
This legit? If not, any cheap recommendations?

I don't know the quality, but the seller is based in CHINA if that's any concern. All you need is some inferior Chinese metal to ruin your motor. Just my opinion.

I don’t think it passes the smell test. If something seems to good to be real it usually is....

That name belongs to Elgin Cams. Not sure if it's a counterfeit copy or genuine.

For the grief and/or damage a junk cam can do, plus the labor to fix, I would not go cheap in this area.

I have no comprehension why someone would look for budget internal parts. The importance of a cam and what it can do if it isnt designed right or fail is huge. Only buy cams from well known US manufactures like TEXAS SPEED.

The part number is Elgin's, but no Elgin stated anywhere, nor on the box (they grind in-house). I haven't seen a legit Elgin cam under $200 either. It's likely a knock-off. I've seen other knock-off products that use the exact part number as the legit product, just without the company name.

Who knows what grade material they've used, how well they control their heat treatment process, or the quality of the surface grinding. Or if they even come close to specs. I know one guy that bought a "LS9" cam from a China vendor, and it measured in as a stock LQ9.

I would find one that actually sells the Elgin brand. Or Summit has their own branded cams "Pro LS" which many are running now with plenty of success. Then you have lots more choices of valve events to really tailor to curve to your application, and they are <$300. https://www.onallcylinders.com/2018/...g-pro-ls-cams/

The Summit Ghost cam (stage 1 turbo) is a great cam. I use it in my Cougar. It's made by Comp and is under $300. Why get a sketchy eBay part, especially for something as important as the cam?

Yeah why skimp on just a few bucks right! It’s all good he ordered an Elgin brand cam. $267.45 including tax/shipping. Been watching a bunch of Richard Holdener videos. Damn I’m really considering doing the LS thing lol

Elgin and TrickFlow are 2 producing the same spec cam.

I wouldnt risk it anymore than I would be cheap LS7 “spec” lifters.

Some things you just don't save the money on....lifters, cams, timing chain.....don't skimp on critical engine components. A timing component failure will simply destroy an engine.

I cannot think of one. Component worth cutting on mechanically speaking. Even suspension wise, your. Life may depend on it.
Now looks and bells and whistles, yeah cut as needed

I'm running the Elgin E1839P cam in my LQ4 and love it. It's like a sloppy stage 1/1.5 cam. Not as aggressive so the valvetrain doesn't get beat to hell as bad, also running the PAC-1218 springs and summit roller trunion upgrade in the rockers.

I am probably late on this. I have bought a few of these "offshore" items. I have had good experiences. The main thing is to thoroughly clean, inspect, and measure everything while you can still return it. I have one of these offshore cams and it measured dead on and had quality materials. LS7 "spec" lifter doesn't mean anything.....it's a hydraulic roller lifter. On a LS motor the main concern is the oil pump and lifter retainers as far as I can tell. My $39 offshore oil pump had better machine work and tolerances than my Melling or OE pumps. My $50 102mm TB was a crazy good deal.
When you can pick up a used engine for a few hundred bucks and throw some inexpensive parts at it while getting some family time...... that's a good life

Many things like this are made in China for US companies and a few of them go out the back door to be sold without the companies badging.
