Anyone besides DSS make a CV driveshaft?

Ok. I ordered a CV driveshaft from The Driveshaft Shop. They told me 8 weeks. WTF? I asked if I could purchase the components to build my own and no was the answer. I知 in Michigan and if I have to wait 8 weeks the snow will be here. Does anyone else build these?

my trans is lower than my pinion so my driveshaft runs uphill. Not ideal but a CV driveshaft will fix it.

I have not found any other company that makes these kinds of driveshafts.

Did you receive your driveshaft from DSS yet? I ordered mine on 8/29 and am still waiting. Called last week and they said it would ship on 11/13 (scheduled for 11/9) but I still don't have a UPS tracking number. It better be perfect for the $$$ and wait time!

Might not help but when I did my 98 Wrangler LS swap I used Tom's Drive Shaft Service for my CV drive shaft. Typically they have ads in the four wheeler magazines.

These aren't the typical double cardon style CV joints that are used on 4x4s. These are Rzeppa style CV joints like used on the Porsche 930 rear axles.

Double cardon CV joints aren't truly CV. They are basically two u-joints that split the operating angle, and are more like a short two piece driveshaft.

The Rzeppa style CV joints are a true constant velocity design. If you look at any, modern RWD or AWD high performance car, all you see are driveshafts with Rzeppa style CV joints.

Double cardans are more than capable. We run them in ultra 4 racing with zero issues. 700-1000hp, 6000lb trucks, 140mph through the desert, 20" of travel. I wouldn't be concerned one bit with running one.

In IRS vehicles yes. I have not seen the rzeppa style CV in a live axle production car. If you have Id like to know the application.

Ahh yes, the bandaid fix s197. Most guys first mod was a 1 piece swap lol.

I know Jeep JKs use them up front but much smaller shaft sizes. Wouldn't be worth cutting one up to make a rear shaft with.

The CV joints that DSS uses are huge, they use both 100 and 108mm joints.

Is this in a live axle car? How much slip is in the shaft?

I agree with Andrew; about an inch of movement. Which when I was told this by DSS I was like WTF, that痴 not enough. He told me to look at the yoke on my old shaft (from the power glide trans) and I would see that the wear pattern would be all concentrated in a very small area.
It was and I致e had no issues with the shaft so far.
