      Rear end offset?

I have a 1969 camaro, custom forgeline wheels 18x12 6”BS. I plan to narrow a 9 inch I have. Today I noticed that my old stock 12 bolt, has a offset about a inch wider to the driver side. I measured from Drum(WMS) to the center of the pinion yoke. My question is when do I my measurements and narrow the 9inch there should be a offset? Or it has to be equal on both sides?

Forsure there’s going to be an offset on one side. The passenger is going to be longer due to the rear pinion being offset on the pumpkin itself.

If there are ford 9” out there that doesn’t have to be offset, I haven’t came across a forum regarding that.

The 9" pinion is about 15/16" offset and the axle shafts about 4" different in length.
