1969 Camaro Trans Am wheel help....

Not sure if this was discussed but ….I would love to run a 15x10 square rims with meaty vintage Goodyears. Going for a Trans Am wide low Look and I am going to track my car at HPDE events. Has any one done this? any pics? any modifications required?

All the help would be great, Thank you all.

Is this what you are thinking of?

Almost everyone you'll encounter here will tell you to run 17, or even 18 inch wheels and tires. This is due to the lack of availability of street legal, high performance 15 inch tires. There just aren't a lot of options. I can't tell you the modifications on the 1969 Camaro for a 10 inch wheel up front. I'm sure it's been done though. Wheel wise, try https://vintagewheelsus.com/index.ph...roducts_id=508 or http://www.etmags.com/lt_iii.html Either will give the look you want but the ET wheels aren't available in 15 inch.

I think these guys http://historictransam.com/ are running what you're talking about. But, those tires I believe are
      1. bias-ply an
      2. not street legal

Doubtful a 15x10 would fit all four corners. I think you'd have clearance problems to the frame, wheel wells, tie-rod and possibly a-arms in terms of clearance especially in the front.

Back in the day, they did not run 15x10 wheels in the TransAm series they actually ran 15x8.

If they come back this year and or look for pictures of the "Vintage racers" and SCCA cars of that era.And they ran 15 x 8s in that time .To run a 15 x 10 you would have to "flair it " and or "mini tub" it.

Thank you to all who chimed in, great help!
Yes back in the day they did run 15X8 square. I really want to keep the traditional Trans Am look so ill do somewhat aggressive look 15x9 upfront and 10's in the rear. Thing is yes its much easier to find tires for 17 and 18" wheels but growing up I always wanted the Trans Am racer look.
If I was going to daily the car then id Opt for 17/18 rims.

My old Firebird had 15x9 5 1/2 BS in the frt. with 265/50 and 15x10 6' BS with 295/50. No fender mods up frt. just tubular upper arms but rear fenders rolled & stretched

You can still get the TransAm Racer look with larger rims

Just to make sure you know. The Trans Am style mini lite wheels are made up to a 17x9.5" size. Summit sells them for around $400. They are called Trans Am superlite

Or you can get custom width and backspacing from Team III wheels in the LT III style. Then you can do almost any size you want up to 18".

If you are set on the 15" wheels then you can still get racing slicks in that size for track day use. But for street use, good luck.

Sorry been off the site for some time but i got my Minilites. ROGER KRAUS RACING helped me with the wheels and tires. Super great guy on the West Coast to work with, used to race and still does. Him and his family run this kickass company. Please check them out, they have all the vintage racing style tires. They mounted and balanced everything and shipped it all within 3.5 weeks. Took long because the wheels had to be made. Here is my 69 Penske Replica with my modern flare...
