New Wheels and Tires for my 70 Goat.

I have a 70 GTO that I want to put new wheels and tires on. It has a full BMR touring suspension under it with 1" drop springs.
Looking at 17" Rally II's and I want to fill up the wheel wells.
8" wheel in the front 9" wheel in the rear.
What about 245-50-17 with 4.5" backspace for the front and
255-50-17 with 5.5 backspace for the rear.
My new exhaust is awful close to the ground and am hoping this will pick the car up at least just a little.
Will these sizes work ok ?
      Thanks

Let us know what size tires you have now. That might help in figuring whether this will raise the car some. The 245/50r17 will be around 27 inches tall.

I don't know if this will help, but I am also looking for a change for my 1970 GTO convertible. Currently have Torque Thrust II's with 255/45/17's. I'd like to have a tire that fills the wheel well more with a taller side wall. They really look small to me. The car has lowering springs both front and rear. Have pics if you want-just text me. I think you will be happier with a larger tire.

What I have now is original stuff 215-70-14 all the way around.
      Leaning towards
      Fronts 245/50/17
      Rear 275/50/17

I just hate to get them on and rub somewhere, I can't decide what I need. The car has 1" drop springs so that changes things some.
