      4L80e Shifting

Recently I went from a 200-4r trans to a 4L80e behind my gen4 5.3. Factory 70 GTO shifter. E38 PCM/T42 TCM. Works great but my tuner tells me that I can no longer hold gears with my shifter, it basically just runs PRND. Is he right?? If so that will SUCK for mountain road driving and I'll be pretty disappointed. Haven't read about that anywhere and never would have gone that route if thats the case. Currently I need to put the shifter in the 2 position to get drive.

Is there no way to hold gears powering uphill or for engine braking downhill with the cable shifter???

You can get a shifter modification kit from Shiftworks to add the extra detents.

I know. Point is, my tuner tells me that it doesnt matter what position the shifter is in, it will just be in D. True? Or not?

I am pretty sure that is incorrect...but I do not know that 100%.
