How to Identify a Turn One Steering Box

I am looking at buying a Turn One 600 Box. They state its a 12.7.1 SB2. They are sending photos of the numbers. What should I look for? This is going in a 1967 camaro

Turn one is not a manufacturer, the visually they will look like any other 600 series box.
But since it has Turn One stamped on it that would be a good indication, now call turn one with the other numbers and they may be able to tell you what it is.

That has the "TURN ONE" stamping which is a good indication it's a Turn One box. It also has "12" stamped on it which typically indicates 12.7:1. It also has a plated housing, which is appropriate for the SB2 box.

Before you purchase you should find out what t-bar size it has. The SB2 is available with a wide range of t-bars; they dictate how "heavy" the box will feel. A typical performance t-bar size is 210 for this application (the same as what's used in the SB1 / DSE box). A larger number/size is heavier. For example, I just installed a box with a 235 t-bar in my Nova and it's pretty heavy. I like it from a performance standpoint but it also requires more force for parking and general driving. I give some driving impressions in this video here: https://youtu.be/FICvmAFrpSY

That box was built for Michael Waltrip Racing in 2011. It was last serviced in 3/2014. That box was built with a 12.7:1 ratio and a .235 t-bar, which is going to be very stiff for any type of street application. It has History nice, i plan on AutoX with the 67 sometime this year..covid -19 Junk

      Thanks,
      Junior

Since I'm running the same ratio and tbar in my Nova I can say yes for sure it's very stiff but also a lot of fun to drive. It really depends on what you want for your car. I'm liking it more the more I drive it.

I'm glad it was helpful. I have driven the car more since then and I really like how heavy it is. It makes every corner feel like a fun corner and as a result I find myself constantly wanting to get back in the car and drive more. But at the same time it takes a lot more effort, so be prepared for a significant change unless you had manual steering previously.

Thanks for the follow up. Glad you like it! How would you describe how "heavy" it feels? Are your impressions similar to mine?

I can feel the road much better. Like driver a older truck but not to hard. Did a quick string setup for Toe, its about zero. I will take it in to the shop for a proper alignment. Again thanks for the help..
