      9" posi options

anyone running a Ford track lock (posi) in autoX/track day events, building a center section with a cooler pump, only track locks and Detroit lockers provide enough room for the internal pump.
My two choices are using a locker with a light spring which is hard to find or a 4 pin posi/track lock.

I have run a lot of them in 8.8's but not in a 9" although I have one for my 69 that is under construction. The hot ticket for a 8.8 is using the carbon fiber cobra clutch plates. The old way to do it was to add an additional plate to make the setup tighter and that caused it to have better engagement. I have not researched yet on how to get the most out of the 9" version but will be interested to hear what you find.

Is that true? You might be able to ask the question to GearFX. I’m almost certain they could do a pump with my tru-trac. I know people who auto cross their cars with the GM version of the trac lok and don’t have any issues, but the helical gear is the preferred option.

a True Trac is too bulky to allow the use of an internal cooler pump and your pinion gear has to have a hex drive hole.

I ended up buying a Detroit locker with 40# spring in it, only some lockers or "posi" units will allow the cooler pump to fit.

I know this is a bit old, you can run an internal pump with a tru-trac, I used the C&R/GearFx pump with a tru-trac for 6-7 years. I'm using the cast steel SVO case so maybe that matters for clearance, not sure. I started having a lot of failures with the tru-tracs so I switched to a locker (big mistake). I personally didn't like the locker, it induced some bad handling into the car, you had to stay out of the throttle completely until you had the car pointed straight or it would have terrible understeer, it would also torque steer when you would step on and off throttle. I tried several different springs with minor improvements.
I ended up switching to a LRP Platinum drive, torsen style diff (same style as a tru-trac), it's billet and can be somewhat tuned for the amount of torque bias it has, it can also be rebuilt unlike the tru-trac. When I made this change I had to go to a TEX pump because the original pump wouldn't clear the LRP diff. So far the LRP diff has worked well, time will tell.
