      RPM Range

Here’s a question, hopefully not a dumb question. A mechanic buddy of mine was asking me what my RPMs were at 70 mph, I told him they were at 2000 and he told me that was about right for that 700R4 transmission and said he would be fine with it, what do you guys think?

I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking for advice, I have and 8.5 10 bolt under it now. I know a 3.42 would be ideal

I have an 8.5 10 bolt rear end. I have a 12 bolt rear end out of an early Nova that is narrower but I’d rather sell that to go in the car it should go in.

2000rpm would be too slow for my engine configuration. I want to cruise around 2500rpm. The problem is that every engine is different and the cam has a big impact on optimum rpm range. Generally speaking, a 3.73:1 or lower rear gear would be my starting point for an over drive trans. A 3.50:1 or taller works with a 1:1 non-OD trans.
