    Dry Sump Tank Help

    I am dry sumping a crate LS7 in my 68 Camaro. Engine is installed and I am looking for thoughts and ideas for sump tank construction and location. To this point I have a clean, flat firewall installed and want to keep it that way. Considering locating tank where in the stock battery location. Any thoughts, ideas, or comments are appreciated.

    I located a customer's tank (69 Camaro, LS9 engine, see my signature for pics) in the passenger side hollow behind the front tire/in front of the rocker panel. Stef's Fabrication made me a custom tank that fit the area quite nicely.

    That's a nice setup. If I realized it could have been done like that I would have liked to have kept the dry sump.

    Mines located where the battery was on my 70 Camaro. I have seen people mount square tanks on the firewall and normal tanks inside the cowl (body fabrication required). I believe Peterson does have a specific 1st gen camaro tank for the battery area.

    If you don’t use a narrow/tall tank, youre not going to get the intent of the dry sump.

    Not as much room as you would think. I feel inside the cowl is a perfect spot! Maybe one day, thatís where mine will be going. Cris @ JCG has done it and I like it.

    I really like that tank setup that John posted. Just when you think everything has been done to these cars, that's really unique & really seems like it may just be the best solution for a dry sump tank. Nicely done!!

    The location is where I want mine to be as well. Why go with a square tank though?

    I do disagree that's the "best solution"...there are better tanks and alot of first gens have the tank where it is on my sec gen

    My customer's tank has an internal swirl chamber (the main reason for a cylindrical tank) and trap door access to the nooks and crannies once it's made its way through the swirl chamber. It allows for more oil volume since all the space is being utilized.



    If a cylindrical tank can fit there and provide adequate volume, then that'll be a less-expensive solution for sure.
