I just pulled the trigger on an LS7 with Late Model Racecraft 630hp kit.
I got to figure out how to make it happen.
Tank was damaged in wreck. So I need a Peterson tank and some kind of oil pan
      Thanks
      Jason
The pan the xrate motor comes with is for a 2013 C6 Z06, the GM part number is 12664619 which fits my Detroit Speed sub-frame nicely

I still haven't figured out what I'm doing with it yet. Project has been on hold since February, just getting cranked back up now

Here is a picture or two of my solution. I used cardboard to mock up the space where the AC used to be, contacted Stef's with my dimensions (I drew it up in a CAD package and sent it to them), they formally drew it up in their own CAD and sent to me for confirmation. Then I had them construct it. I added a couple of mount points when I received it, and I've been very happy with how it all worked out. 3.2 gallon tank with breather works perfectly for me.

Here is the space before the tank...

I like it. I'm running LS7 about 650hp. Had a. Nice Peterson tank with in tank filter under top cap. Really slick bought from some Porsche road race guy. But space is an issue. As soon as my LS7 is mocked up in car in a bout 2 weeks I'll have a better idea of it. I've got some speed tech down tube bars on my 67 kinda like yours I'm hoping maybe a fabbed mount off of it

One thing you cannot see in those pictures is how I mounted it. I made a bracket which bolts to the top that you can see. But on the bottom I have a bracket that bolts to the subframe and to the body mount (l-shape) with 2 holes in it. I use rubber grommets in the holes, and I have 2 aluminum posts coming out the bottom of the tank which go into the holes. The tank sits on the bracket with the posts keeping it from moving anywhere horizontally. Finally there is a tab on the down bar which has 1 bolt into the front side of the tank to keep it from moving up and down. You can see the rubber isolator between the front side and the down bar that I'm referring to.

I did this on purpose as it prevents any stress from being transferred into the tank due to flex of the downbar or subframe. It worked out great, just took some thought to make it happen...

Update I purchased my tank and breather from Armstrong Racing Engineering (ARE Dry Sump Systems) Dry Sump is what these guys do all day and are super knowledgeable, they support Corvette drift cars for gosh sakes! Check them out at drysump.com The tank I went with is P/N 7030 and it is going where the battery was in the original car. I will update with pictures when complete.

I had actually purchased a Custom tank maade peterson for some Porsche road race guys. Really slick tank with dipstick and filter just under cap.
But due to budget I scrapped the Dry Sump idea and went to wet.

Here is the ARE tank mounted in my 68 where the original battery was. The tank is huge at 3 gallons but I talked to several people including a corvette drifter and they said the same thing, many of the LS-7 failures in GM cars was due to not enough oil (starvation).Name: dry 2.jpg

If you have a first gen camaro...Peterson has a tank that fits great on the pass forward side where the battery goes. On my 70, I have essentially the same tank. Mine is longer with less girth but still holds ~3 gal...IMHO for an external oil tank you want to avoid a tank that's mis-proportional to the length (Girth with no length). Its more than simply capacity as you don't want oil pooling up on the side of the tank under G-s hence you want a skinny tank.

Very nice install. I'm keeping my tank I purchased just in case future I do want to go to dry sump. Probably should have just went ahead and. Done it now but since I'm not road Racing it was really more. Of a want. I'll run a few autox events, and really want a rad Atlanta in my cars history. But I'm not going to do it to really competition reasons just the experience

Having a taller tank makes sense, I just could not fit it on a first gen. In the case of the ARE tank I used the bottom is about an inch above the subframe and the hood needed to be notched to clear the high point of the upper fitting.

One other add I did was a Petersen adapter on the stock oil pan to convert to AN fitting, simple and beefyName: unnamed.jpg
