I made good progress this week. The front crossmember and upper control arm mounts are in place. I also installed some frame bracing. Its tucked really low in the frame to maximize clearance for the exhaust and other goodies.

Big stuff coming this weekend hopefully...and it's NOT an LS.

      Picked up a deal yesterday.

      Gen V L83, $300...

I'll be tearing it down this weekend. More details soon.

I gotta get my TIG out more and practice. This looks great!

And congrats on the shoutout from Grassroots Motorsports. Nice to see more attention making it's way to the trucks like this.

That's a solid looking frame! Should have some good lateral and torsional stiffness.

Engine #1 is torn down. Overall... its meh. Engine #2 looks like a winner.

I plan on using engine #1 as a fixturing engine for mockup and fabrication purposes. At least in the process I got some good parts.

Got the new engine torn down and I am really happy with what I found. Originally the guy i bought the engine off of on FB marketplace said that it blew and oil pump. I pretty much assumed the bottom end bearings would be oil starved and trashed. NOPE! Everything in this little L83 is good to go. I could slap it together and run it.

Im debating between throwing forged pistons in it, or rods and pistons. Realistically, the gen 5 rods will hold 800 whp no problem, and depending how the motor is set up, that may be close to other limits.
Right now im leaning towards dropping in a set of Mahle pistons and keeping the power levels at or below 800 rwhp. If I get a hankering for more power ill build a sleeved alum block engine on the side to swap in.

I got the Upper control arm gussets all tigged in solid and bolted up the front suspension that I've got now.

Up this week; Installing the rear 3 link mounts and rear crossmember structure. Stay tuned!

Love the progress. How much time do you think you have on the CAD/design side of things?

Honestly Im probably over 200 hours into it. That said, thats literally like 20 different iterations. Ive designed, scrapped, and redesigned multiple times.
The actual amount of drafting into this particular iteration is probably like 40 hours. The design work books where i have all of my research on components... oooof probably another 2-300 hours.

I've been researching how I've wanted to do this for about a year.

Started workin on the 3 link suspension. I put in some bracing for the lower 3 link mounts. The braces are 1.25" .095 Wall. The link mount brackets are 3/16" mild steel. Should have plenty of adjustability.

Unfortunately my 9 month old Ingersol Rand SS5 Compressor took a poop so the upper link isn't cut. YAY!!!

Keep on plugging along. I've got the upper link mount all burned in on the upper 3 link bar.

Yes I did. Its my own design. Pretty simple in concept, a little bit of finesse to get it to all come together. Specs Below:

      2x2" Steel Frame and Gantry
52"x26" Wet pan (16 Gauge pan, 2" Flat bar slats)
20mm HGH Linear Bearing from ole Chiner
      Nema 24 400ozin Steppers
Bunch of 3D printed tensioners, probe holders, thingys and what nots.
      Pokey CNC Motion Controller
      Pokey PlasmaSens THC Control
      Pokey Motor Drivers

Runs pretty good. Could use a bit of fine tuning now that its been running for awhile. Id like to refine the probing mechanism. Right now its a little stiff and will push the warp out thin steels through off your cut height. I have probing shut off for now.

That's awesome. Id love to build one that would do half a sheet of steel. I have a G0704 mill currently that I converted to CNC, but its not all that efficient for cutting out 2d flat parts. Its also a bit travel limited.

Id love to have a CNC mill. I feel like i could really take my builds to the next level with one.

Making progress. For you guys out there running 3 link setups, are you running offset or centered? Anyone try both types?

For the guys running an offset upper, do you notice any weird chassis dynamics when transitioning from throttle to hard braking?
