Corvette IRS in a 1st Gen??

A guy was telling me last night that one of the Corvette IRS complete assembly fits perfectly in to a 1st gen as an almost bolt in installation. Anyone know anything about this? He thought it was the C5 Vette

Not bolt-in but it can work.

People have used C4-C6 on various vehicles the years but this is not a walk in the park.

In a car like the Newman how would they make a seal in the trunk area where the suspension comes up from under the car into the trunk? If not sealed properly with some sort of rubber boot you would think that exhaust gasses could come into the car.

it must handle really well. I wonder with that option so readily available and for the fact that it can handle the power, parts are plentiful and that it is more comfortable why people would go with straight axles.

That's easy, simplicity. A straight axle comes on the car and there is soooo many options to stay with that option. Adding IRS where it wasn't before is always more work. Plus not all IRS systems can handle good power right out of the box. It's not unusual to need better axles and all new bushings. That said, it's totally worth it when done right. Just a matter of how bad you want it.

That's what I was thinking. The full C6 set up I have handles like a lambo. And being C6, you would think parts would be plentiful. It can certainly handle the power.
