      Finally pulled the third member...

What you think? Pulled it because it was super whiny on partial throttle and quite coasting. Measured back lash and it was about .020”

Put a magnet in the fluid and just a marble size of gunk stuck to it! Lots of metal sludge in the oil! Very little miles on this....No more than 250 miles

Certainly doesn't seem right to me. Maybe the gears had a poor heat treatment.

The wear patterns look good; backlash and pinion depth seem to been set up properly. I'd change the fluid and look again in another 250 miles. Perhaps this is break-in wear?

Im committed to having it redone. The noise is just too much for me to bear.

Not that I understand. US Gear is part of “Axle Tech”.

Do you think my gears look fine and the .020" BL is ok? The reason I ask is because if everything looks good, then Moser wont cover the noise. If thats the case, Ill probably send it to Gear FX instead of them if Im paying 100% of the work..

That's interesting. They don't mention anything about sound, but looks like a good alternative? Maybe those gears with the treatment from GearFX will do the trick?

I'm interested in this because I'm looking at the 9 inch as a possibility for my car and the only complaint I find is about gear noise. Don't hear about that with the 12 bolt...

Those gears are specifically advertised to be quite. Claimed to have "hobbing" like I heard OEM gears were. That gear set also has a REM finish option under the lightning series. It seems very promising that gear set will be quite and the REM service will make them the ultimate street gear in noise and performance.

I would bet that Moser will deny claims for noise etc.

Agree - wear pattern looks ok to me and the sludge is likely clutch break in. But the noise isn’t good. Can you put on a louder exhaust ? Haha

It’s a Tru-Trac, no clutches to make sludge.

I sure hope so. I got the isotropic finish on this gear and indeed the backlash was over 2x spec on the old gear. The new gear is at .009 and feels firm. I decided to put floater ends on the housing since it’s all disassembled, so soon to come and see if it makes noise.
