1968 Camaro - Project Track Rat

I've been building this car for 11 years.. so it's sort of sad to sell now that it's getting done. There have been numerous stories on this car and the build. My wife it retiring and there may be a big move in our future, plus I'm too busy for it, work, and my wagon.. Something has to go and with the wagon I can carry my whole family easily. Everything is documented, I have thousands of photos of the build. Price is $94,000 .. Let me know your ideas. You couldn't have a shop build this car for under $150k. Lots of expensive parts involved.

      SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD

You can email me at [email protected] .. I'm not online much

      So, let's get to it:

Best walk around video I have online:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGHJ5c1yLIo

      1968 Camaro
Paint by Best Of Show Coachworks in Escondido CA

It's a custom blue from the Axalta catalog. Nicer in person than in photos since it always looks lighter in shots. Hood, front valance, and rear valance (and rear spoiler) are all carbon fiber from Anvil. The rear quarters were widened about 1.5 inches per a side for a widebody look. It took forever to get right, but it looks factory.

The car is just getting finished, we just need to align, tune, and then TMI will be updating the seats a few other parts. I really don't have time to track sort the car, so that can be fun for the new owner.

It's just left JBA where they TIG welded on a new 306-stainless exhaust system with billet hangers.

      Engine:
      440-inch RHS-block LS (4.125 bore x 4.125 stroke)

      Lunati forged I-beam rods
      Mahle forged, fully coated, pistons
Brodix BR Series CNC LS3 heads
Lunati billet double roller timing set
      Comp custom grind cam - 235/254 610/596 lift on a 113 LSA
      Bushed CHE rockers
FAST intake with billet drive by wire throttle body
FAST fuel rail and 50-lb injectors
Fully trap-door baffled Holley Oil pan
Stainless Holley BlackHeart prototype long tube headers
      TIG welded stainless JBA exhaust
640 hp and 595 ft-lbs on the Westech engine dyno

      Cooling:
Autorad XL Radiator system with fabricated aluminum core support

      Trans:
      Tremec Magnum six-speed
      SPEC twin-disc clutch
      Aluminum 3.5-inch driveshaft

      Brakes:

      Interior
Prototype by TMI with bolstered rear seat and one-piece headliner.
      Gauges - STACK cluster
      Vintage Air System
      New wiring by American Autowire
      IdidIt lightweight column
      Quick release hub
      Momo leather steering wheel
      Trunk kit from TMI
      optima battery trunk mounted

      Body:
      Axalta two-stage paint
Carbon fiber hood, rear spoiler, front valance, rear valance
      Widebody rear quarters
All OE trim that's been restored and polished
Widened rear bumper to fit new quarters
      New grill, new trim
Billet door handles (chrome plated) and billet tail lights with LEDs

      Misc:
      Holley Stealth fuel tank
      Billet Holley fuel filters
      Stainless brake lines
All new glass including doors. All new door and window internals. All new weatherstrip

      Wheels:
18-inch FORGELINE three-piece wheels with custom one-off Track Rat center caps
New Falken RT-615k tires - 315mm rear and front (but I will most likely move to the 275 front since I don't like the loss of turning radius)

Here's the first time we drove it.. sounded great!

Again, it's a really cool car.. I just don't have the time to mess with it and finish my other projects. All new and top-shelf parts. Let me know if you want more or specific photos.

      STORIES:

There were a ton of stories online, but our site recently had a problem so many of them now have no, or less, images, which is a shame, but I hope they will fix soon. Below are a few of the dozens of stories on the car.

Yea, it's a time issue.. I just don't have any to work on things.. so everything takes way too long. Car came out exceptional though, pretty happy with it. It's ALL new, so it just needs to be sorted out and tracked

I had a question about the cage. It's a modular deal from Chassisworks and it's nice since we were able to fit it tight to the roof. The door bars swing out or you can just remove them if you want for street driving.

The harness bar is pretty far back, but if you are tall it could be made to be farther back since it's easily removed and I have extra clevises and parts to make a new one. So, if you are tall it can be dealt with.

The back seat looks cool, and is pretty safe in terms of hitting heads, but these cars really have no rear seat leg room.

Some more shots of the process...

The AutoRad radiator system is killer and really cleans up the engine bay. Also can see the Vintage Air Front Runner and the Anvil carbon inner fenders. The interior is nice, but the seats are too tight for most so TMI is making new ones that came out since these were put in.

Just a video from today of the car idling with the new 3-inch stainless exhaust system. Next week we finish the wiring and some small projects before it heads off to alignment.

      Getting close to road worthy

Ok, I have to ask. How did you route the exhaust to the tail panel? I have the same rear suspension and could not figure how to get 3” thru there. Thanks, Matt

Went under the axle.. came out awesome.. impossible to go over with any sort of compression. Email me and I will send you a picture. Having a gas tank with the cut off corners really helped.

How hard was it getting the TMI h e headliner in after the cage install?

Yep, we put the one piece TMI headliner in after the cage and before the windshield since it had to slide in from the front.. was tight but fit and looks great.
