LS7 with LSx Speedtech oil pan not registering oil on dipstick.

Hello PT,


I bought a speed tech LSx road race pan with remote filter kit for my LS7 and am can't seem to get a read on the dipstick after putting oil in the car. Has anybody had this issue?




p.s. - this could also be the wrong dipstick for the motor (the shop that build my car has left me with a ton of things that I need to have redone)


Also is how can ID that this motor is actually an LS7? I am truly stuck in a situation with the shop that built the car and what was actually delivered. =(

The ls7 will have a 7.0 cast into the block at the front below the passenger side cylinder head

The LS7 doesn’t have a dip stick hole unless it was drilled for one. Regardless the CI of the engine shouldn’t be a factor in your issue. I personally would contact SpeedTech and ask them which dip stick is the proper length for the pan.

Oh btw someone does make a bolt on jig to drill a hole for a dipstick ... maybe Google ls7 wet sump conversion .

@badazz - What does "CI" stand for? The shop did do a wet sump conversion, so maybe thats why this has a dip stick?

CI = cubic inches = engine displacement

From what I recall, all dipstick reach the same amount into the pan, regardless of engine type. The only thing that changes with respect to different dipsticks is the upper tube shape and length. So as long as you use a tube with a matching dipstick, it should read correctly for all wet sump engines. Perhaps they installed a long tube with a short dipstick.

Is it an OEM dipstick and tube?
