      Melted PS reservoir nipple/connection.

My road course day came to an end because I melted the PS reservoir. It’s a type II pump with an integrated reservoir. Where the housing with an O ring slips into the pump, that nipple melted/deformed causing it to leak profusely. Is this common? I’m now looking into a Jones Racing metal reservoir now, but it looks like it might be too big. What other options do I have?

Very common. Exact same thing happened to me. I went with a remote aluminum reservoir and mounted it on the pass side away from engine heat. Only tracked it once after that (69 Camaro that I sold) but it seemed ok. Puked a little bit, but it may have been overfilled.

Do you have a power steering cooler? I’d be adding one. Oil cooler too if you are tracking the car....

Is the PS pump set up the one off of the mid mount?

Speedway Motors has several GM type 2 pump options with remote aluminum reservoirs. There are others out there too. They are common in the circle track crowd.

Im using the PSC pump that was provided with the Wegner front accessory drive. It’s not a dedicated track car, but adding a cooler wouldn’t hurt. I ended up buying Jones a racing fabricated reservoir. Has additional bungs for option...

the problem was clearly heat, but hot enough to deform the reservoir but the O ring was perfectly fine!

KRC has reservoirs with a built in filter. Filters are good in any case and are available as an inline type as well.

The GM power steering fluid is far better than anything else I've tried.

      Filter? For cooling?
