TKO 600 not smooth between 1st and 2nd

      Guys,
I have installed a TKO 600 behind an LS3 in a 67 Corvette with custom frame. I have a hydraulic TO bearing (Tilton)....after bleeding the system several times, it goes into all gears fine, but when driving, its clunky between 1st and 2nd. I only have 18 miles on the car and trans....is it likely this will go away as the thing breaks in? By clunky I mean that when moving from 1st to 2nd, I sorta half to pause during the shift or it will seem as if it would have to be pulled hard into gear....I have clutch stop set and it all seems to go through gears well and reverse, except 1 - 2....thoughts? I did align the bell housing before installation.

Only thing I can think of was the bellhousing alignment, but I would also say the clutch may not be fully releasing. That doesn’t sound like something that will go away.

What about when the car running but stationary? If you can shift between 1 & 2 with the car stopped/engine running, I don’t think it’s clutch related.

There’s only TWO reasons why a perfectly good transmission would be difficult to shift. One would be the clutch not properly releasing and side loads on the input shaft. If you are confident the alignment is good, verify clutch release.

When you say the bell housing was aligned... do you know what the runout was? If dowels were used?

I have about 150 miles on my TKO 600. I must say I think my Muncie shifted better than this thing LOL

Did you confirm that the Tilton bearing was in fact fully releasing the pressure plate?

Maybe a dumb question but was the case filled with the correct fluid?

I had some work down on my car years ago and the mechanic used manual transmission fluid instead of ATF. The shifting was a little rough.

What tranny fluid are you using was going to be my question too? I believe Tremec recommends the GM Synchromesh tranny fluid and now they have their own brand. I would stick with their recommendation.

Another problem could be the pedal travel. You could be pushing the pedal too far and beyond the disengagement point and you may have to put a pedal stop on your pedal and adjust it accordingly.

What clutch assembly are you using?
