      Here's a Chevelle with those sizes: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/1969-chevy-chevelle-ss/

I have 275/40's on mine and I agree with you, but 50's are 28" tall and jack it up quite a bit, you lose the PT look. 255/50r17's are the right height at 27", but you lose that inch of width. Nitto has the Invo in that size, looks OK.

Kind of the rule of thumb that I've always heard is that the gap between the tire and the fender should be equal to or smaller than the visible height of the sidewall. So with how your car sits, I'd be more inclined to stick to 16" wheels. Or preferably, lower teh car a bit to make it look better with the new wheels (Rally II's, I'm guessing?)

This is a local guys car with the Year one Rally II’s 235/50/17 in the front 255/50/17 in the rear. I think a 275/50/17 is too tall. It would fit, but that’s a really tall tire.

Man-glad you Pontiac guy are on here (or all A body guys) to give motivation and knowledge. I have a 70 GTO too, with Torque Thrust II's with 255 45 17 inch all the way around. I'd like to go bigger with wheels tire and brakes.

I have run 3 sets of tires on my GTO.

      295/45-18 and 255/45-18
      295/40-18 and 255/40-18
      295/35-18 and 275/35-18

All combinations were on the same rear wheels 18x10.5" with 6.25" BS. With the 255 fronts the wheels were 18x8 with 5" BS. With the 275s I widened the wheels to 9.5" and have 6.5" BS but use a 1/2" spacer.

Exactly the wheel and BS I have. What are you doing for a spacer? The WIlwood hub I have is tapered the whole way, so I may be faced with having to have a custom spacer made ($190/pair....not cheap for a spacer!).

I used a spacer made by Baer.
