Detroit Speed subframe and frame connectors options not to weld them

Hey folks - I really don’t want to weld my subframe connectors to my subframe. I think I read that someone used bushing and bolts? Any pointers ?

      thanks in advance

I've got the DSE sub and connectors and welded the DSE brackets to the subframe and drilled/bolted them to the connectors. Before doing that, I drilled the connectors out and welded in 1/2" I.D. tubing to keep the frame connectors from crushing. Looks sanitary and works beautifully. I can post some pics if you need but lots of folks have done it this way so I'm sure there's pics floating around.

They will work better if welded - more like the way modern car frames are built.

Here's the way I did it. Nothing that hasn't been done before...What you can't see is that I reinforced the subframe connectors where the bolt holes were drilled by welding in 1/2" I.D. tubing into the frame connectors to keep the from collapsing. A person could have plug welded the connector brackets to the connectors but if you ever have to get the subframe out of the car, it'll be a huge pain.

Nah. Grinder will go thru the welds. How often do you replace the subframe ? Mine has been in place for almost 40 years now.

I have had 3 different motors in my 2nd gen in the past 24 months and have never taken the hood off, drop the subframe every time. It is the best part about having a subframe car.

I prefer the method shown above, simple, easy, solid. Done.

For the spacer tubes, do you tack weld them from the inside of the tubing or are you somehow rosette welding them on the outside?
