      clutch recommendations

Looking for clutch recommendations for an ls3 and tremec magnum. LS3 has a PRC head/cam combo and headers for now, but will be doing an lsa supercharger in the future. Looking for a clutch to hold the power now and later. That being said, I'm looking for a clutch with a light pedal. I drive the car a lot during the summer months, and my dad and I do powertour. He has knee issues and drives the car, so I would like to make it comfortable for him. Thank you.

Monster stage 2, good for 550 hp at the wheels.

The McLeod RST twin disc would be my choice. It has great pedal feel, good for up to 800hp, and very street friendly for stop and go traffic. Another good choice would be the RAM twin disc Force 10.5. Either of those will let you grow into them as you're adding more power.

I have the RXT McLeod twin and love it. I would not reccomend a Monster. I destroyed a stage 2 at the track. The disc cracked in numerous places, upgraded to the stage 3 and it was like a On-off engagement and chattered. The McLeod operates smoothly and no worries issues holding my 560 wheel hp.

Thank you, for the recommendations. I am weary of the Mcleod products due to all of the things I hear about stripped splines. Has anyone used a new lt1 factory twin disc? I have heard great things about them

Centerforce makes a competing product for the 700-800hp crowd - forget the name but it's a similar 2 disc set-up to the McLeod.

I am going with a simple Dual Friction for mine, which is rated to 600ft-lbs - plenty for my current and planned power levels, but not adequate for the SC you have planned.

Agree on both the McLeod RST & RXT.

Just FYSA, the stronger a single disc is, the more agressive the material is. It will wear faster, act agressive and will probably make some noise. Exactly why I have a dual disc. There is more friction surface and the materials don’t need to be agressive or need extreme pressure plate loads (causing that hard pedal)

Copy that, you said dual friction not the DYAD.

Sorry that was confusing. I am using a DF for my build but it’s a much lower power application. And I have over 60K street miles with a DF and they are very robust and easy to drive and really feel about like a stock clutch in every way. But they are not designed for all that much power. 550ft-lbs I believe is about it. That covers me just barely but I’m not going beyond that in tq so it’s a good match. Would not recommend for a 650ft-lb LSA Motor for sure.

Be cautious on those twin disc ZR1 clutches. They're pretty tall and most of the time will not leave enough room in the standard aluminum and quicktime T56 bellhousing for proper TOB clearance.

Can an LS7 setup be used? The Camaro has been using LS2 flywheel/LS7 disk-PP with good results and excellent feel since 2009. An LS3 may require different components.

Lots of folks have used the LS7 clutch without issue. I prefer not to use it because it’s still a stock clutch with its limit. The flywheel isn’t billet, the disc is organic and there are a bunch of little springs and such on the pressure plate. Lots of folks are using the DYAD who I know use to use the LS7 clutch.
