Rear Ceoss Member and Suspension Mounting Points

Progress on the rear cross member and suspension mounting points. Mike in an earlier photo created the jig fixture from which he is now locating the mounting points for the track bar and the coil over shocks upon the fabricated cross member.

We chose the welded in frame rails and cross member over the bolt in connectors and cross member with the desire to stiffen the chassis up.

Thanks and Kudos go to Mike! Mike is the MAN! He really puts thought into each step of the process.

I did some looking on the thread and I see you have quite a nice project going there yourself! I had to catch my breathe there when I saw the red car picture then saw Camarosaurusrex on the fixture!

Kudos to you for diligence and sticking to it to get your ride to where it is now! WOW! A fun thread to peruse!

I hope to see you and FNQUIK on the tour or out in the world enjoying the wide open road!

      Cheers!

      Brackets For Torque Arm Crossmember

Mike Said "Here is one side of the torque arm crossmember mounting brackets. I used a piece of tubing on the bench so i didnt have to crawl under the car to do this. They will be welded together here then slipped on the frame rail and welded in place where the jig is at under the car. They might look a little funny but they will get the job done. And then some."

I think the brackets will look great!

These brackets will hold the bolt in crossmember for the pivot point of the TCI 2 arm torque link suspension. We are going with all weld-in suspension stiffening and hard points from which the TCI bolt in suspension will mount.

      Cheers!

Hi Folks! Time to update you with progress reports!

We are working on the rear suspension of NovaSS!

Mike Said ”Notice all of the rust and sand that is sitting on the frame table. This was all fished out of the rockers. The rocker panels will definately need to be replaced. The area of the inner rocker i am replacing will facilitate forward progress in the chassis fabricating. As discussed, the body work will be addressed in a different stage of your build.

Below you will see the inner rockers:

Size: 128.2 KBName: 12-1-19 Starboard Side Inner Rocker Panel.jpg
Views: 791
Size: 133.3 KB

Mike said “Notice in the 2 bottom pics that the old leaf spring mount that was cut out is sitting on each side of the table under the area that was repaired. Gives you a better idea of the work going into your car, and how much better of a machine it will be when compared to using the old sheetmetal mounts and other things that will get replaced along the way. I should have kept track of the number of spot welds that had let go over time. Imagine how many old cars are on the road that are held together by just a handful of spotwelds!”

Below You will see the replacement panels for this phase of the build:

      More Rear suspension pictures

      The rear suspension stubs:

Mike Said “Last 3 pics notice the small tab/ear that is bolted to the inboard side of the mount. This will get welded to the frame rails after the crossmember gets finish welded in. Should be nice and strong”
