      axle leak

      All, i need some help with a problem on my 9" ford axle. I have a leak at the passenger side axle seal I cannot seem to stop. Setup is as follows:
      1. Strange HF9 housing with big Torino Ends;
      2. Strange axles;
      3. Timken tapered bearing and seal;
      4. Wilwood backing plates with integrated parking brake.

      Here is what I have done so far:
      1. replaced rear wheel that was bent;
      2. removed rear axle,bearing, and seal to inspect for damage;
      3. sealed the bearing shell to housing end with film of RTV;
      4. re-assembled being careful that the seal lip was not folded, kinked, etc.

      I pulled the wheel last night to take some pics for another member and it is leaking again. Thoughts are as follows:
      1. I am over filling the housing. I fill to the level of the plug in the side of the differential.
      2. Seal got damaged and missed it somehow during last inspection.

      Anyhow, I wanted to get thoughts from others before i tear into it again. Thanks, Matt

      you may want to try swapping to the bearings with the O ring so you don't have to mess with seals, that said did you check to make sure the spring remained in place yet, if that spring pops off the seal will leak, the only other thing i can think of is something is damaged and not allowing the seal to do its job. where exactly is the leak happening from around the axle or at the housing?

      I had a constant leak on my 8.8”. I took it to a shop for new posi , gears etc, and was quickly notified of a bent carrier tube ( probably from me welding on my axle brackets). They heated and straightened it. Coincidence or not, no leaks now.

      Do you have a working vent?

      Thanks for the responses;

      1. I will check the condition of the seal again;
      2. I checked the housing after welding the brackets, but will check again;
      3. I do have a vent. I will check to see if it is gunked up.

      Thanks again, Matt
