68 Camaro RideTech 4 link tire size

This is my first post so bear with me.. Maybe I am posting this in the wrong place.

I'm building a 68 Camaro protour/autocross car. I just finished DSE minitub and have plenty of inner fender clearance. Question is anyone running the factory 12bolt and ridetech 4link with 335's? Looks like I can clear a 18x12 wheel with about 7" backspace and probably roll the outer finder lip or 7 1/4" would completely tuck the tire in the fender but looks like the side wall of the 335 at that point (estimating 4"profile with 13.5" section width) would be very close to the lower ridetech coil-over mount. Budget will not allow a custom rear-end and I would rather not narrow the factory 12bolt. I know cars this old are all going to be a little different but if anyone already has experience here it would be appreciated. Looks like most everyone is running a 9" or complete aftermarket rear end. Wish i had the budget for that but its already spent and then some... I know 315 would be a easier fit but looks like most of everyone is running the 335 BFG Rival at all the events.

I know there is no exact yes or no answer here, just looking for any similar experience/insight.

      Thanks!

I had to use the weld on ridetech shock mounts, as the wheel/tire contacted the bolt on mount that attaches to the factory spring perch. This was on a 12" wheel w 315 tire, with a narrowed rear housing. Backspace was 6". On a stock width rear, 7" or 7.25" BS sounds right. A 315 is a pretty easy fit on an 11" wheel. That may also allow you to use the bolt on shock mounts. I have seen 335s on several 67/68s, but I have found each car is a bit different as far as fit. I dont think you'd give up much/anything at all with a 315 rival, especially if you are running a 255 or smaller up front. I'd still roll the fender lip for piece of mind. With some careful measuring you should be able to determine what will fit with your setup.

Thanks for the suggestion about the shock mount. So with the weld on I could move the mount inboard but then I would need to shorten the axle and the geometry ridetech has done all the design work on would change. Or am in miss understanding and the weld on mounts provide more clearance in the same location somehow? I only see 3 sizes available in 18" Rivals. I was planning to run the 275/35 up front on a 18x10 with the ride tech tru-turn etc.

335 rival will be a very tight fit and will probably have some rubbing issues without extra work to make clearance for them. 69 has wider quarter so it is easier to run a 335.

Don’t want to burst your bubble but 275 up front with tru-turn might be tough. You will have to nail the backspacing and run a lot of negative camber. Even then rubbing is possible. No need for a 10 inch wheel for a 275 tire.

I'm not trying to steal your thread, but I have a question. Can you roll a rear fender after the car has been painted? If so, how is it done?

I am running the full ridetech 2 level package in my 68. I am running Kore3 C5 brakes front and back. I used a stock width bolt in 9 inch rear (exactly like your factory 12 bolt) with the factory style leaf perches welded on. I autoX my car and run these sizes-
      Front 18x9 with 5.625" BS with 265/35-18
      Rear 18x11.5 with 7.625" BS with 315/30-18

I use Falken RT-615K+ tires and the only rubbing I have is from the inner tire on the subframe while trying to park. No other rubbing or issues. This combo does really well. I guess it would be possible to run a 275 up front, might try it on my next set of tires. You can run a 335 on a 67/8 but like it was said earlier, the BS has to be exact. I have plenty of clearance (other than the subframe rub) front and back. I drive the car all over on the street and autoX tracks and have no problems.

Thanks for the good info all!

My car is not painted yet and I have no problem with the sheet-metal/fab work for rolling fender lips out back or modifying the inner fenders in the front. That will cost me nothing but time and sweat. My issue is tight budget at this point. I wish i could afford a set of Forgelines along with their tech support to get the fit just right.... But I cant drop 6K on wheels. The wheels with the look Im after and at my price range in 18" they do not come in 1/2 sizes. So 18x12 or 18x11 but with lots of offset/backspace options so im pretty sure I can get the backspacing right. I made a kind of home brew wheel fit tool. Unknown is the way the sidewall will profile out back on different wheel tire sizes/combos.Name: wheel snip.jpg

Size: 15.0 KBPics of the wheel tool are representing a 335 on a 12" wide wheel with 7.25 backspacing. Too close? what do you think? I will need to remeasure when i receive my rear rotors but just trying to get a feeling of whats possible. Thanks again for all the help. There is a amazing knowledge base here. This is a big decision for me and need to get it right.

Anybody have any sidewall pics of a 315 on a 11" wide wheel? 18" BFG Rival or Falken RT? Or is there negative performance attributes to putting a 315 on a 11 vs 11.5?Name: IMG_0541.jpg

325-30-19's on 19 x12's 5.75 backspace 54.75" rear axle to axle rolled lips. I think I could have done 345's
      255 -40-18's front

This is a 325/19 which is tight. Z06vet (Scott) might recognize the car...

Rolled fender lips tire tight to lip and about 3/4 away from the ridetech shock mount. No rub, no issue when back seat has passengers.

In my case it's a narrowed rear. I have a deep dish. In your case you wouldn't

      Wheels are Rushforth 19x11 .
      Tires are 325/30/19

Let me know if you need anything else

67/68, depending on the replacement or factory quarters, I actually have GM quarters on my car, and the lip is very big on both, to run a 335 which I have, trimming is greatly required!

But like discussed ever since I have been on this board, the difference in how each car is made at the factory, between the 2 years and even the same year cars,

as they say, measure twice cut once!
