Sec Gen Camaro Anti Lock how to?

Anyone done this? I would like to give the anti lock brakes mod a swing.

      Thanks

It has been done. I've seen the car in the article in person and you can see all the ABS equipment.

4-wheel or just the rear axle? Complexity would go up a bunch with 4-wheel ABS

CPP front spindles and ‘99-‘02 F-Body rear brakes would be fairly straightforward. Just have to get the ‘99-‘02 stability system installed after that. Sounds interesting.

I have the DSE frame, the knuckles have ABS sensor bosses. I didn’t know you could do just the rear.

      There’s a few methods. 4th gen F-Body, had both 3 and 4 channel ABS.

Back from the dead…I have C5 hubs on all 4 corners…a C5 ABS controller/module. Where to go from here?

I know some people have gotten the C5 setup to work but I think its takes some pretty specialized know how. There is a MK60 unit from a BMW that can be used standalone and might be a easier solution.

Pretty sure Stielow did it. But he had access to some resources the rest of us don’t. I think he uses Bosch now.

Will the C5 work stand alone? I never looked into as the C5 abs doesn't really get rave reviews.

I don't think the MK60 will work with the C5 hubs so sell your C5 hubs and get C6 hubs with the yellow wire lead and new axles. Then email this guy. https://www.rhtmotorsport.com/ This is the route I went but it will be awhile before it is operational. Or spend Bosch money and use the hubs you have, definitely the best system available but also 10k to start.

There may be an in-between there but it depends on the module being able to read your sensors or you being able to decode them.

Vorshlag has messed with S197 Mustang ABS as a standalone on a corvette but I don't remember how that turned out or what hubs they had to use.

Seems before I bought all these parts, people told me the C5 was stand alone….i really don’t want to spend $10k on a kit or get crazy changing my set-up.

What’s the difference between C5 and C6 hubs?

I'm almost certain the C5 system is not standalone. I think the Corvette systems require the BCM as well.

If you want to learn more about the S197 swap Donny mentioned, check out this FB group. Terry from Vorshlag is the one who was doing the work.

I got a hold of Doug as Donny mentioned. Looks like I can get a kit for $3500. I keep seeing the words “MK60”, but if you put that in EBay or Google, it seems more like a slang term. What is the MK60 are all the designators behind it? Why don’t people say 00-05 BMW M3 or what ever it is??

There was tons of MK60s and they are all different. They all do the job of ABS but some of them do it very well. I started down the rabbit hole of sorting it all out and realized that the best use of my time was to write the check to Doug and get something that already works.

I installed C4 4 channel ABS on my 3rd gen build as a standalone. The C4 system has the ABS module and the EBCM divorced, while the C5 systems ABS/EBCM are integrated in one unit. I removed the TCS (traction control) and periphery sensors such as lateral and yaw inputs by de-pinning the EBCM harness plug. The EBCM is like any computer where it only responds to the inputs provided to perform its functions. My system has only 12 wires controlling the system. (2) power, ground, brake input, and (8) wheel sensor inputs. NOTE: The wheel sensors are coils, so the paired wires should be twisted along their entire length. Keep in mind that the ABS system also acts as a proportional control, therefore there is no need for a proportional valve at the master cylinder. I’ve been using this system for a couple of years now and it works as it should, although I have not fully stress tested it yet, but I plan on some auto cross and track time this year.Name: IMG_2270.jpg
