      What was your first project-car?

      Hi everyone!

I'm probably not the only one who's (in my case, planned) Pro-Touring-build is not the first project-car they've had.
So I wondered, what were yours and what did you do with them?

As for me, I bought a 1994 Mazda MX5 (European Market Miata) in April 2016.
Very low mileage, as-new interior, rare version, but also bad rust.
I bought it from saved-up pocket-money, and since I couldn't afford to go down to Munich where it "lived" (and can't pull a car-trailer with my license) had a friend bring it up north for "a few bottles of beer" since he was driving with an empty trailer.
This was what "she" (called her "Maria") looked like upon delivery:

The softtop had a few holes in it, one side looked like it'd been parked on a golf-court, and there was bad rust all around (rocker panel covers, fenders, engine bay).
Also, some damage from spending a few years stationary in a shed.

I largely took her apart (learning as I went along), leaving most of the interior as well as the drivetrain in it (why touch what isn't damaged?), before sending her off to rust-repair and paint (I never touched a welder, and wasn't going to learn on that car).
While the body was taken care of by (expensive...) professionals I took care of the smaller bits and pieces and collected necessary spares.
Currently the car is still apart, waiting for the new brakes to go on there, the roof to be replaced and a roll bar to move in.
Once that's taken care of all that's missing for my ProTouring-project is some funds, but those will come in.

You can find the whole project-thread here: https://www.clubroadster.net/vb_foru...uce-maria.html

My first car and project car was a 1973 Nova SS Hatchback. I had a 350 engine /4 speed car. And this was a Pro-Touring car before they even called it then in 1977. It had headers on it when I bought the car.I added a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. A Eldelbrock Streetmaster intake manifold. Thrust Turbo mufflers. And Cragar S/S 14 x 6 Wheel with Positraction D60-14 front .and G60-14 rear. It was a very fun car to drive ,Especially when I was Stationed at Camp Pendlton.California .When I got to drive all over California. Especially up the coast road to Seattle Washington
