      Primer Question

I know there are numerous primer threads already up and I've read/searched several. However, in my search I've read very conflicting things so here is my personal situation.

I'm having my trunk, tail-panel, firewall, entire undercarriage and interior blasted. The car is getting put on a rotisserie and media blasted with a combination of glass/sand/and walnut depending on what area we're talking about this upcoming Thursday.

I'm having a Detroit Speed powder-coated front sub frame mounted, Detroit Speed sub frame connectors added, a T56 Magnum trans tunnel cut, solid body mounts etc.

With that...I will not be able to afford the actual paint this go round; I'll have to wait several years (at least 4) for my funds to build back up. The car will be garage kept while in storage in NY...where it gets cold, snowy and moist.

Am I supposed to put this thing in Self Etching Primer? SPI epoxy Primer? Should I ask them to spray a particular Primer and then a sealer of some kind?

I have no idea really. The shop has had my car there for 2 months waiting to get around to it and just today I got word that it is getting blasted on Thursday so I'm a bit unprepared.

      Please assist!

      Thank you,
      Andrew and a '76 T/A

SPI epoxy is the way to go. Use at least two coats. No sealer needed. Etch primer is essentially cheap lacquer primer with a little acid tossed in.

Axalta (Dupont) 2580CR. Best direct to metal epoxy out there (even the PPG guys will admit to that!). Spendy, but worth it.

SPI Epoxy is great stuff! 2 coats of that and you'll have nothing to worry about while your waiting to replenish the bank!
