Alas, the wagon is not completed. But I am making a big push this spring and I still have quite a bit to post up to get everyone up to speed, so please stay tuned!

In 1985 your largest engine option for the station wagon was the 3.8 liter v6. If you bought the sedan you could get the v8 in the LTD LX or the special service package for police vehicles.

The best way to remove the powertrain for me has been to drop the subframe.

Everything that preceded was done on 2 weeks of vacation time by one person...me. Yes. I'm tooting my own horn a little bit. The truth is a real garage doesn't have the time to dedicate to just my project. If they did it would cost so much it wouldn't be worth it.

I could imagine the conversation... "Can you take the suspension and brakes out of this car, then take the engine and transmission out of this car, then take both of those things out of this station wagon, and replace them with the parts you pulled from the 2 mustangs? That's all I want, and I don't have a lot of money and I need it done in 2 weeks."

I should mention there is 1 major difference between the foxbody mustang chassis and the foxbody LTD station wagon chassis...wheelbase. Meaning all that connects front to back has to be longer. Driveshaft, brake lines, wiring...all a little bit longer.

Well, that's how it sat for a year until the following summer when I found an independent rear suspension on craigslist. So I bought it and took a week of vacation to install that.

In the back of my truck, for about a month, sat the independent rear suspension from a 2004 cobra mustang.

Before installation bushings needed to be upgraded.

Once I got this far I had run out of steam and I didn't have that initial focus and vision. I still wanted to complete the wagon, but I hadn't planned it all the way through. I didn't like the look of all the old mustang wiring and I had to do plumbing, modify steering column, add cluth pedal, etc. The problem was I didn't have it all, Over the next couple of years progress slowed. I took apart the steering column but couldn't put it back without adding the clutch pedal, cobra brake booster and new instrument cluster out of a v8 car. I want a 351 under the hood, so there's that too! Basically the car sits while I buy parts for it.
