      Mini tub frame rail

I'm about ready to box in my frame rail for the dse mini tubbs,67 camaro. I was thinking about installing 1/8 inch metal strip inside and plug welding to make rail stronger. Does anyone think this would be a bad idea? I did cut the frame rail a little deeper, about an 1/8 inch.

I completely boxed mine in the full length of the frame rail on the under and inner side with 1/8 metal to add strength.

I honestly regret not just replacing the entire frame rail with comp. engineering frame rails or autoweld frame rails. The factory frame rails are only 16 gauge sheet metal.

With that said,I'd strengthen the rails where ever possible or replace them completely if you have the time and skill. Links below

Scroll down about half way down the page on the auto weld site for the camaro rails. There's a set for $599 bUT suppose to be "exact" bends of factory rails but you'll still have to notch them for mini tubs I'm sure.

Or you could do what we did and weld in your own fabricated frame rails around the mini tubs.
