      Farm truck 64 F100

I've browsed this forum for a long time and have always been a big fan of pro touring builds. Unfortunately I have never had the large amount of money that is invested in a lot of these cars, especially now that I'm a father. Well after seeing a thread on this forum for a 66 f100 on a crown vic chassis I knew I could start a pro touring style build on a kraft dinner budget!
I searched for a while and found the perfect f100 sitting on a farm. It's a 64 and a long bed that will need to be shortened but the color and the patina were perfect:

      Took it home:

And then bought myself an RCMP surplus 2008 crown vic:

I'll post as much progress as I can, it's slow going now that I have a 7 month old at home! The plan is to have it look part farm truck and part sports car. I'm hoping to keep the budget around $5000 canadian, at least initially.

Well after a few beers the one night with the boys I ended up with a crown vic convertible:

Next was to strip the crown vic down to a bare chassis. I decided to keep the crown vic firewall and floor:

Yes I had to drive it like this once!

The next step was remove the cab from the truck:

And then place it on the crown vic chassis:

It's just sitting on there nothing is mounted

Next hacked the front of the frame off and moved the radiator back 2 inches:

And then this is where the car sits now. Fenders and front end temporarily mounted and the cab tacked into place. Next step is to do some sheet metal work to tie the f100 cab to the vic floor/firewall.

Cool build, I love the patina on your truck! That thing is going to have a killer stance, look forward to seeing some more progress and pics!

I love those old Ford trucks too. Looks like it will be a fun build. As much as I despise the looks of a crown vic, once you made it a convertible, it was almost cool!

It was actually kind of a cool looking convertible, but much more sketchy looking when you seen it up close

Got some time to work on the truck today so made some panels to tie the rockers to the floor and welded them in. If anyone is wondering the height of the crown vic floor is set to the same height as the f100 floor used to be.

Then I worked on making a few templates to tie the firewall into the cab. This will be next.

Well it's hard to find time to work on the truck with the baby. I can't do metal work when he's sleeping since I have an attached garage but I figured might as well get after the mess of rewiring the truck using the vic harness:

Also I just figured I would say this is my first ever build, I have never done anything like this before! So if you have any tips, suggestions, or better ways of doing things please let me know. So far it's been a fun learning experience.

I think it's cool that this is your first build, your making some really good progress! I've bookmarked every build thread that I can find involving a ford truck body swapped onto a crown vic chassis, I hope to do a similar build with my 76' F150 hopefully this summer.

What's your plans for the wiring? Are you planning to use most of the crown vic systems (AC, heater, steering column/ignition, other electrical systems) or are you going to eleminate most of the wiring and just keep what's necessary to run the engine and control the trans? Keep up the good work!

Thanks! My plan is to use the entire wiring harness from the crown vic as well as the heater, ac, etc. Right now I am removing all the wiring not required(power locks, Windows, speakers, switches, etc). This has been a fair bit of work, if you plan to do the same label everything when you take it apart. I had some help which was great but they didn't label everything which caused me some work.

Thanks for all the encouragement! I was able to get a few more things done this weekend. I patched the firewall into the truck cab and then patched the back of the cab to the floor. Not the prettiest welds I've ever done but haven't worked on thin stuff in a while and it'll get ground down anyway:

Then I welded the column in place. It might move a bit eventually but it's out of the way for now:

Finally I reinstalled the doors and hood just to make sure everything fit and closed still:

And yes I know my garage is a disaster right now. About to start a house renovation which means the project won't get worked on much and there's stuff everywhere.

So haven't really had any time to work on the truck. I have been looking for the box trim for a while and ended up finding a truck box trailer that had it for a really good deal. Will probably just sell the trailer once I take them trim off, or maybe paint it to match.

Nice score on the trailer, looks like it's in good shape! That would be cool to slam it down and paint it to match, maybe add a period correct canopy?...Would make a good tailgater, or a cool add on if you took it to car shows etc. Either way really like this build!
