Nice looking, but I'd suggest some sort of guard on those component plates that you have on the interior firewall. You won't want your passenger's feet kicking any wiring loose under there by mistake. I'd also suggest trying to remove and install those spark plug wires with the engine in place now, while you're in a position to redesign. Something that looks cool when the engine's on the stand will definitely not be cool when you're replacing them down the road if you can't get at the wires without pulling the engine. No idea if you're installing air conditioning or not, but the brake booster and steering column are definitely going to make getting at those driver side plug wires a challenge.

Thanks for the tips! The only components are above the tunnel in center so won’t be close to feet. The other plate will be for future heater which is in same position it would be normally; just offset from firewall an inch. The plug wires are able to be removed with the body on the frame. No AC or brake booster.

Spring 2021 Progress Update on 66 Chevelle

Lots more to share as the assembly continues this spring! Have put quite a bit more time into it and it is really starting to come together now which is fun to see.

Finished designing circuits to run through relays and received all of the components to build the RTMR boxes. Found a good place to mount the boxes that is out of sight but still can get the covers off to swap relays and circuit breakers if needed. Mocked it up out of cardboard first and then transferred to steel.

Mockup and fabricating throttle cable adjuster bracket extension to correct the cable alignment to the adjuster with Holley Sniper throttle lever extension (installed for better throttle control). Using Lokar throttle cable and aluminum cable bracket kit. Had to get a new air cleaner base that was less of a drop to clear the throttle extension and shorten my throttle body spacer using a Mr. Gasket rubber gasket/insulator/spacer to bring the air cleaner back down to clear hood

Wegner adjustable PCV valve with clear hose to inspect for oil suction when setting. Will also be checking out the oil splash shield on underside of valve cover to make sure there isn't a place for oil to pool per recommendation by Wegner. This has a fixed orfice mode that some have said is probably the way to go for self-adjusting EFI so that the controlled vacuum leak is more predictable than having more flow come on at higher vacuum.

Ordered up some parts for the rear end from Strange Engineering to upgrade the pinion yoke to a 1350 U joint size including a much heavier-duty LPW cover paired with a LubeLocker gasket for hopefully no more seeping and easy service. Nice piece! The chromoly yoke and caps from Strange are really nice too and will get some photos of those as soon as the new driveshaft is done and gets mounted.

      It's alive!

Been awhile since I've had time to post updates, but it's alive!! Got all of the wiring wrapped up in October 2021 and dad and I button up some pre-fire up tasks Saturday and Sunday 10/23-10/24 and were able to turn the key Sunday night and it fired up and ran on the first try with no issues! This was pretty satisfying being a freshly rebuilt engine, Sniper EFI and Hyperspark ignition added, 100% new wiring with a lot of customization and integration of many different systems, and being the 1st time ever attempting a rebuild like this. With some additional things to finish up before it could be driven after that, I was able to get it out for it's first drive on Halloween 2021. Since then, been working on learning about the Holley software and honing in on the tune and working on some other small things to get it ready for more miles this summer. Feels good to be able to turn the key and drive it around now! Been a long process but a rewarding one. The wiring was the most intimidating not knowing much about it, but once I learned how to do it and had the right tools and components, it was actually fun and a good feeling having made every single termination myself.

Vintage Air Heater-only with the upgraded controls. Decided it was going to be easier to install that before finishing the wiring and filling the coolant so pulled the trigger on it. Mounted it on the aluminum standoff plate behind the glovebox so completely hidden with nothing visible from engine bay side.

Custom bracket to mount the controls under the dash where they aren't noticeable since I converted the space from the original controls into a cubby for phones/wallet

Congratulations on the first start up! Nice clean job on the engine compartment, glad you got to use it a little. Did you get a video of the startup?

Looks great. I wish they still put the kick panel vents in. Had a 79 GMC with them that did not have air conditioning, and with those panels and the wing windows, air conditioning was rarely missed.
