I have contemplated using a relay on the main 12v cable but instead I installed a 250amp circuit breaker back in the trunk next to the battery so that it will trip if the cable shorts. I also have a master disconnect switch mounted in the trunk so I can kill power when the car is being stored.

I too, am running a breaker in the trunk. No solenoid. My G8 has a constant live feed from the trunk as well. The only reason I didn't initially go with the bulk head is that I didn't have one on hand but did have the pass through linked above.

      Working well so far.

I didn't see it mentioned but I used the Ron Francis bulk head fitting. Didn't want to put that big of a hole in the firewall after all the time spent filling holes, but everything I looked at needed a big ass hole.

Does any have some more information on the BMW part in the previous post?

After a couple of days of Googling I've had absolutely no luck identifying this BMW part.

Year. Model. Part number. Anything more than just a photo might help.

      Anyone?

      Thanks.

Here's the E46 firewall pass through. That should get you started.
